Kruger addresses Smart situation with team

I'm holding a 55 year old (or whatever he is) to a higher standard than a 19 year old.
So you also consider saying piece of crap worse than shoving someone?

Where was the outrage at the 30 year old in Stillwater that soved a Texas player for simply landing in the crowd?

You people are advocating punishing someone for speech. That isn't how we do things in this country, especially when you consider the context of where that speech occurred. Orr didn't walk into a church and scream offensive language.

Many of you keep focusing on his age. Does that mean if he was a 22 year old student it would be OK?

Honestly -- is it so hard to grasp?

When a grown man calls a college kid a piece of sh!t, yes, it's worse than another college kid doing it -- because the grown man ought to know better. He ought to have had some sense pounded into his thick head in the thirty-plus years that have passed since he was of college age.

And if a college student called a middle school student a piece of sh!t, that would be worse than if he called someone his age the same thing. And if that middle school student called a six-year-old a name, the same concept applies.

We see it all the time when a player is guilty of some relatively minor misstep -- posters make excuses for the player based on his age. I've done it, and I'll bet you have too, Denver.

So if we advocate giving a player a break for breaking curfew or getting drunk or smoking weed or whatever because he's a college kid, then it stands to reason that someone who hasn't been a college kid in three or four decades might be held to a tougher standard.

I'm probably roughly Orr's age, and I'm fine with being held to a higher standard of behavior than your average college student. I can handle it.

As far as I'm concerned, no one needs to be calling anyone else a piece of crap, regardless of the ages involved, but yeah, it's worse when a grown man says it to a college kid.

Marcus Smart is a grown man.

Thanks, Skyvue. As a professional writer, I had a feeling you would say it better than me. ;)

He's nineteen years old.

Exactly.
A lot of people at 19 years old are overseas fighting a war, working to put themselves through school, working two jobs to support a family, etc.

Contrary to Mike Gundy's opinion, a 19-year-old is a man.

If he's the worst kind if fan than a lot of OU/Thunder fans are downright scumbags.

I've never been to a Thunder game so I can't speak about Thunder fans. But all you have to do is read OU message boards after a loss (or even after a bad play on game threads) to know my comment is correct.

Yes, he can go off to war. Of course, those of us old enough to have been drafted remember those 19-year-olds who had been drafted into the Army. At the barracks in the induction center, many of those grown men were crying all night long, frightened at being away from home for the first time. Some had even enlisted, having seen some movie about green berets, but they were now just kids---terrified of making it through the night. It was rather difficult to sleep as loudly as some were crying, and it wasn't one isolated kid. There were probably four or five of the fifty on each floor who were crying, some others were beginning to whimper as reality dawned on them. These are the men that we send off to war.

What is the exact age where every single person becomes a "man" then?

What military did you serve in? It doesn't sound like mine. I don't recall any crybaby's at Ft. Polk, La, in 1966. For that memory to be so vivid, it must have been you that was the pillow hugger.

Smart has been pampered, coddled, and preened over all of his life for no other reason than he played ball better than the other kids his age growing up. Now, 22 days from his 20th birthday, he is being booed, taunted, and challenged all over the conference for behaviors of his own making. His response has been to pout, sull, and explode in anger like a childish brat.

The fan may be just another jerk in a world full of jerks. Smart stands virtually alone. He is the college player that went into the stands and assaulted a fan. Priceless.
