Refresh my memory.

Clarke wanted to come here as a point guard and Kruger passed. Right?

Or Clarke just flat-out chose Butler over OU?

He wanted to come to OU but instead chose Butler because the NCAA took forever in coming out with OU's punishment. He was afraid of not knowing what the punishment would be.

Clarke's uncle decided he wouldn't get enough shots at OU and advised him to go elsewhere.

Happy for Rotnei he beats the team that ended our dream season (2001-02) and we beat stupid aggie AND got votes in the USA Today/ESPN poll.

So even though we're not ranked yet, we are getting closer and maybe, just maybe, both Rotnei and OU will be in the postseason together.

I can't believe we got votes. That's awesome, although I don't believe we're currently a top 25 team.

It is my understanding that Lon asked to walk on, with a promise to give him the first available scholarship. Apparently, we didn't (for sure) have a scholarship available at the time, but thought we were going to have one.
Rotnei needed a scholarship, didn't have the money to pay his way or didn't want to do that, and just selected his "second" choice because they could and did guarantee a schollie.

There was a lot of talk about different situations, but the above is what I was told. And, I didn't talk to a family member, but supposedly someone who did.

In any event, it worked out pretty good for everyone. I love watching the kid play, and think if he was a couple inches taller or more athletic, he could and would play in the league. He is one of the purest "open" shooters I've ever seen. If he has a clean look, he is as reliable shooter as there is, just doesn't create well at the college level. I would love to have him and he adds a lot to a team.

I can only speak on when I talked to Clarke and the first time I talked to him he was excited and ready to commit and then the second time I talked to him, which was after the Butler visit, he didn't sound so sure about committing. I tried to contact him again and couldn't get him.

I take it something happened post Butler trip to make him change his mind.

I think the uncertainty was whether the NCAA would take another scholarship away. It would be nice to have a shooter like him on this team. I think it could really open things up for Roe, MBaye and Fitz in the paint.

And it would need to be a dunk for Fitz, it amazes me that he has gotten worse offensively!

I really wish they would expand basketball polls to 35-50 teams. The main postseason tournament has 68 teams now, yet we only regularly hear about maybe 30 of them due to our dinky rankings traditionalists.

I'm not saying this because I'd like OU to be ranked more (although that WOULD be nice), but it makes too much sense to not do it. There's 120 or so D-1 football programs. There's TONS more D-1 basketball programs and about 100 make the two postseason tournaments (compared with about 30 bowl games in football).
