Kuar Kauath

Stretch 4. Not a center. Can shoot it.

Freak athlete. Still raw though. Aggressive style defender. Engry high motor kid.

You don't think he could defend the post with a (reported) 7'5 wingspan?

Stretch four? How many do we need? Freeman Manek Doolittle.
We need some minutes from the Five with Lattin leaving. Jumani is good for twenty minutes not sure about Hannes

Freeman very well may be a five next season

Blocking shots, rebounding, impressive dunks? Check! Kur may be better than anyone on the team, including Muni.

If he improves his offense this summer, he could really help us next season. Averaging 17% from three and 57% from the free throw line at the juco level could make him a liability on offense in the Big 12.

Don't be so sure -- JUCO is generally the highest level of basketball around, so those numbers should translate to around 45% and 90% in the Big 12. (I hate the fact that I feel the need to point out that I am being sarcastic here!)

The only shots he needs to take next year are dunks and layups. Leave the shooting to the shooters and he can clean up their misses.

You didn't need to point that out to me.... I immediately starting smirking by the time I got to word 9 or 10, lol.

I can take it. :)

That's a good quality to have, everyone needs to be able to laugh at their own expense! :D

:ez-laugh: Not with me.

I hope I’m wrong and he develops into a scoring machine from the perimeter at some future date. He definitely has potential. But that and my hopes for him does not change the fact that shooting from about anywhere on the floor is not one one of his strengths,

You know what is interesting about this debate? How right I think I am, and how wrong you guys think I am. If we were going to sit down and reason through this in a cordial and logical way, I feel very strongly that I am right. Conversely, I am not computing the counter-argument. You guys probably think I am just stubborn or dumb (probably setting myself up here) and am sticking to my guns.

It seems odd that in the history of this forum, with all the discussions about unimportant subject matter (in the grand scheme of life), I have never seen someone say "you know what, you have changed my mind on this".... How is that possible?

In the multiple threads where we have engaged in this debate about recruiting philosophy, both sides just seem entrenched. At its core, you guys don't believe there is any reason to put time/resources specifically on junior college recruiting. I attempt to counter this by saying "what about all these guys right in our backyard, from the same schools that Sampson/Tubbs recruited at for a few decades"... Total dismissal, back to the entrenched view that I made it up, that they aren't even there, or that they are only sporadically there.

Maybe this is ridiculous, but I feel very confident that if Kelvin Sampson was the coach at OU this whole time... in the modern era, with his relationships... OU's team the last 2 seasons would have had:

  • Shak Juiston (their coach is Steve Eck, he sent many players to Sampson including Taj Gray)...
  • Rob Gray (he ended up with Sampson anyway)
  • Vladimir Broadziasnky (Sampson recruited the heck out of those Kansas jucos)

I mean... alternate history is fun and all, but this is what is going on in my mind... Just want to throw it out there... Is this really a stretch? I don't know if they would have had TY, McGusty, Muni, etc... Probably not (other than Trae)... But I feel very confident knowing that 1-2 years ago a Sampson lineup would have looked like this, following typical Sampson recruiting trends.

  • PG: Trae Young/Corey Davis... Davis ended up with Sampson anyway out of a Texas juco...
  • SG: Rob Gray (Averaged 19 per game for Houston, all conference, american, etc)
  • SG: Some guy, HS or otherwise that Sampson found...
  • PF: Shakur Juiston (averaged 15/10 at UNLV, was NJCAA Player of Year)
  • C: Vladimir Broadziansky (All big 12 player... no way he goes to TCU over OU if Sampson goes after him in an area that nobody recruits better than Sampson)

They probably still would have gotten Manek, Trae, etc... but is that really a stretch? Eck would have delivered Juiston to OU on a silver platter... Sampson got Rob Gray anyway...

This isn't some kind of a wish list... Sampson found a couple of these guys anyway, in real life. The other guys were straight outta the same schools he has relationships with. This was LAST YEAR. Modern era...

You put that team on the floor, or some combination like it, and OU is winning the league, which they used to do with lineups like the above... He wasn't National Coach of the Year for no reason... He doesn't have the best win percentage in school history for no reason... He didnt average 25 wins per year for no reason.. He didnt win the conference tournament 4 teams for no reason.

He would have likely done it again, with a roster like the above, last season.

I'll kick it back to you... based on what I just said.. is that a stretch that those guys would be playing at OU? This isn't some bygone era of golden juco recruiting. There is a good chance that lineup is on the floor at OU LAST YEAR.

Am I wrong?

Kuath May be a great athlete, but I contend strength and girth are the most onderrated physical attributes in basketball. The guy weighing 50 lbs more than his opponent has a big advantage... assuming everything else is fairly even.

I honestly think the 173 pounds is old information, but even if Kur weighs 200, he’s going to have a tough time playing inside in the Big 12. JMHO.
