Larry Drew (UNC) Leaving/Transferring

This must be a day of great celebration in Chapel Hill.

I hate transfers.. They take too long, might as well get a HS kid in my correct opinion

Send him to Stillwater. OSU's last final four had 3 transfers and a juco in the starting lineup, and one transfer coming off the bench.

I forgot Drew is a Junior already. If he was a sophomore then I could see it being worth exploring, but if he does indeed transfer to a D1 school he will only have 1 to play.

Add in the fact that's he waited so long he cant even be a mid season eligible player, guy is going to go to some random small school.

since he is a jr, he would be better served to stay there and get a degree and share time with the frosh

Hevand Jai Lucas ended up being extremelu overhyped.

since his dad coach's in Atlanta...I would expect Georgia to be the school he attends.

The way Baylor recruits...Baylor might be his destination as well.

As for us...If we did bring him in...that would make Blair and Drew both seniors...which might allow for one of younger PG's to RS. But if we didn't go after Gary Franklin(I'm assuming we didn't), I doubt that we go after Drew.

I've never really watched him play much (I have zero interest in watching Roy's teams), but I suspect he's a kid who simply peaked early. He had opportunities most players would only dream of (dad a long-time NBA point guard and assistant (now head) coach). Once he got to college, he wasn't playing against kids who were in an AAU mindset. His opponents also had quality coaching, and they quickly caught up to and passed him.

My guess is he ends up somewhere smaller where he can play a lot and play early, probably a mid-major program.

I don't understand why he would leave right now during the 2nd semester b/c that won't make him eligible to play til the season after next. I think that he has a lot of animosity towards Williams and UNC b/c he's leaving them after they won 9 out of their last 10 games and it seems like he is trying to hurt the team and their season. This is a perfect reason why he lost his starting job.

Definitely strange timing, something must have happened during practice or a game to bring this to a head. I don't know why someone would think he was doing this to get back at UNC. What about his personality makes you think he would leave during the stretch run out of spite? I've never heard any bad stories about the guy. He lost the starting job because he had major holes in his game, and his peak is not as high as the potential Kendall Marshall has. Roy plays the best players to try to win, attitude is not the reason he lost the starting spot.

As for animosity towards UNC, if you've followed UNC the past 2 years I'm not sure I've seen a player more hated on by his own fan base in recent memory. And he never did anything wrong other than not be Ty Lawson or Ray Felton. The constant criticism is ridiculous, there are a high percentage of UNC fans who wished he would disappear because the team would be better without him. Now they get their wish, so we'll see. If I were him at 21 I wouldn't shed a tear for the UNC fans, a good number of them are spoiled bandwagoners who think they deserve the world just because. I hate fans like that.

I don't recall the OSU lineup in 1995 (as in transfers/juco) but both of OU's final four teams had a lot of juco transfers on it. 1988 had Harvey Grant, Mookie Blaylock and Rickey Grace. The next team had Q. White, Ebi Ere, McGhee and Dietrik (in the top six players). Was J. Brown on that final four team? I don't recall but he was a transfer from a Florida School.

I never understand why so many college basketball fans in Oklahoma don't like transfers. They have been big contributors at both OU and OSU.
