At a preseason OU party in Lawton yesterday, Joe Castiglione said, "Very soon there will be an announcement about the revitalization of Lloyd Noble Center."
I just thought you guys would want to know.

sounds cool, wonder what the plans will be.

I wonder if you can build mid con suites, Move or create more concessions, rest rooms and fans activities to the middle concourse then rebuild the upper bowl on top of them, seems like the pitch of the seats is too steep and if you extended it out a little more, the court could appear a lil closer.
Definitely I believe they should improve the lower level experience, it's a long walk to the top to pee or get something to eat and drink, and find a way to get suites in there.
OU is now competing against the NBA, and if something is working at a Thunder game,, you gotta find a way to get it at Lloyd Noble.

I've watched games in OKC and Austin, and the LNC is very bland compared to those.

Everything should and, I believe, will be possible. I would shocked if this does not include suites, club seating, and an overall renovation of the seating bowl and upper concourse.

He needs to quit wasting money on the LNC and build a new basketball arena that is designed for basketball not concerts. He blew it with the last renovation and the practice facilities. The practice area is fabulous but it needed to be done with a new arena not an attachment to a horrible basketball arena.

This has been put off long enough that I am hoping they are planning a large renovation.

Exactly I what expect. A number along the lines of what they put into GIA...

Carey Murdock discussed is on soonerscoop.com. To paraphrase:

Architects have been hired already to come up with a renovated plan
Joe C didn't shy away from saying they might just completely redo it
Also didn't shy away from saying it could be a $100+ million project
Wants to improve amenities, seating, and the overall configuration

To compare, they plan on doing more to the football stadium as well but haven't even hired an architectural firm yet. So Lloyd Noble is farther along

A small blurb on Rival's OU site mentioned a conversation w/ Joe C on LNC. Joe was playing it coy. No hard details but the vibe seemed to lean toward big changes.

LNC is serviceable. But Joe C. is savvy, he knows it's an arms race these days and he certainly wants something more than "serviceable". I think we're all a bit tired at the piecemeal approach to LNC improvements. That is, improvements that don't really improve much. Now that Headington Hall is done I bet we get another announcement soon about athletic upgrades. That seems like a good approach. Don't bite off more than you can chew - announce a big improvement, get it done then boom, announce another. It keeps up the buzz and momentum of improvements. Hopefully they want to make a big splash and LNC is the next step.

I just wonder what the architectural bottom line is as far as what can be done at LNC? OU won't raze it so what can really be done there? Whatever the limit is I hope Joe C. is going right to the edge of it.

Since Joe has mentioned "reconfiguration" I'd guess that they can remove the bowl configuration since there are 4 main pillars and then square off the seating. I'm sure the bottom rows all the way around would be the fold away seating so that they could still use the facility for gymnastics events, etc. I'm sure the whole concourse section would be expanded and renovated. Michigan's renovation (similar size and configuration to LNC) was $52M and I think Joe has hinted at up to $100M figure. At either of those amounts or anywhere in between, it's really going to be substantial.

Chrysler is or was a similar configuration as Lloyd noble so that may be a positive.

Call me clueless, but aside from the newness and the color scheme, I don't see that much different about Michigan's arena and LNC. Perhaps the lower seats edge closer to the court -- it's hard to tell from the pictures on their site -- but the angle of the seating doesn't seem terribly different from what LNC has now.

You're right, I think that's why Joe wants to base it off of the renovations at the Crisler Center. The main difference is the student section. The new Crisler Center has bleachers that run the length of the court on one side instead of the student section on one end of the court.

Here is a YouTube video with a better tour of the renovations at the Crisler Center. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uq2cnlvyap0&list=TLRxpkufR3g-8[/ame]

The architecture firm is Sink-Combs-Dethlefs.

If you look under projects, they've done numerous arena renovations and construction. Including, arenas in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and Chesepeake in OKC. c

Crisler Center was an absolute pit before the renovations, now it's a fantastic place to watch a game that can get quite loud because of where they placed the student section. Hopefully the LNC's renovation will be similar.

Looks like the Crisler Center renovation was about 52 million.

Just think. They spent $52 million for all that. We have most of those facilities in the Practice Facility already and may potentially spend up to $100 million on the renovation! If this happens, we won't recognize the place.
