Lol @Gotlieb crying about Oregon

OkSt is at a 5 seed on KenPom and Sagarin, and Oregon is a 11 in KenPom and 12 in Sagarin, so seeding looks appropriate per a couple prominent predictive numbers. Also, Ole Miss is rated quite a bit higher in both, so Oregon isn't necessarily the best 12.

I understand seeding is more based on resume than predictive items, but I think it's tough to argue OkSt got a bad break, other than the travel.

I don't know why this is so surprising.

Pretty much every single analyst out there has been talking about how Oregon got hosed (and OSU by proxy) by getting the 12-seed.

The thing is that OSU gets double-hosed because not only do they have to play, by far, the best 12-seed, but they have to play them right in their own back yard.

Given that OSU was the highest 5-seed, it's pretty baffling.

Really? It's an 8 and 1/2 hour drive from Eugene to San Jose!

You beat me to it, Tycat.

563 miles makes for one huge backyard.

So you're really going to argue that OSU is not at a geographic disadvantage playing Oregon in San Jose?

Really?

The Bay Area has tons of Oregon and alumni and fans. And furthermore, it's Pac 12 country. Oregon will have a decided advantage in fan support in the arena, without question.

OSU was overseeded by a couple and Oregon was underseeded by a couple.

Should be a 7-10 matchup so no big deal.

OSU was over-seeded? By what measure -- the bocabull "I hate OSU" index?

OSU was #17 on the NCAA's master seed list, making them the highest-rated 5-seed.

Is our reward to get the Austin pod or play the lowest 12? Nope. It's to get shipped out to San Jose and play what everyone agrees (except for the OSU haters around here) is a massively under-seeded Oregon team.

Jeff: I've always respected you as a poster, but your act has become tiresome as of late. A fan of one university shouldn't come onto an opposing school's message board and expect to be treated like a visiting avatar.

Do you consider Ames, Iowa, to be in oswho's "backyard" (your term, not mine)? It's about the same distance from Stillwater (a bit closer, actually) as San Jose is from Eugene.

I guess OU has an advantage over SDSU, too. After all, it's twice as far from San Diego to Philly as it is from Norman. We're shoo-ins! Bet the rent/mortgage! We can't lose!

Funny how our plague of aggies have spent most of the season building their team up on this board (to the detriment, one can only assume--given how much time they spend here--of their schoolwork, job performances, and love lives), but in the past few days, it's been all downplaying and preemptive excuses (which come in handy in case of defeat and even handier if oswho wins -- just look at the obstacles they'll have overcome!)

Oregon is ranked 48th in Sagarin ratings, so that equates to the last 12 seed.

There will be more Oregon fans there than OSU fans. I will grant you that. But the game is at 4:40 PM. That is a much more favorable time slot than the year the OU women played Washington in the West Regional. The tip time was after 9:00 Pacific time on Thursday. OU had played 4 games in 5 days and won the tournament on Sunday. They flew to the west coast on Tuesday and played on Thursday night.

One of our fans starting yet ANOTHER thread about OSU. It's getting embarassing....

Okie Jr. RPI is #27. 27 divided by 4 is 6.75 which rounds to 7. OU RPI is 39. 39 divided by 4 is 9.75 which rounds to 10. Oregon RPI is 47. 47 divided by 4 = 11.75 which rounds to 12.

You see the trend here dopey? It's not like this stuff is rocket science. It's first grade math that dumb ex jocks on ESPN and CBS think is complicated. It's not like the members of the committee are rocket scientists either.

OSU is seeded too high. Not only mathematically, we saw them play 85 minutes vs OU where they were clearly outclassed for 70 minutes.

Like the huge advantage for osu if playing the Ducks in Des Moines???!!!

Poor osu would be crying if the game were played in Tulsa!

I know, I said that half tongue in cheek. Where's your sense of humor, Jeff?

It's definitely a strange match up for the #1 rated five seed. Maybe Joe C had more influence on the committee than any of us imagined. ;)

To set the record straight, Jeff, that's another attempt at humor on my part.

Good ol' Butthurt Boca. Well, unfortunately for you your team has to play the entire game and you can't just call time whenever you want. It doesn't work that way. If Kruger's modus operandi wasn't to choke away game after game down the stretch then maybe you wouldn't be unranked while we're in the top 15, 5 seeds behind us, lose to the worst Texas team in Big 12 history, or go 1 and done in KC against a lower seed you're favored against. All this with a senior laden team while OSU played 1 junior and 1 senior. I hope this helps.

Boca.... seriously?

You do realize that RPI is one tool the committee uses, right? It's not the sole determination of seeding. They use all of the available data for sorting and seeding... from RPI to Sagarin to KenPom.

The link that I provided is the actual seeding list from the Tournament selection committee. OSU is their #17 overall seed, which translates to the highest #5 seed.

As you said -- it's not rocket science. Particularly when the Selection Committee provides their actual seeding list.

Do you consider Ames, Iowa, to be in oswho's "backyard" (your term, not mine)? It's about the same distance from Stillwater (a bit closer, actually) as San Jose is from Eugene.

In the context of the discussion, yes. And I fail to understand why the distance from the college campus in question is the sole determining factor of "travel distance."

Do 100% of a certain team's fans and alumni live in the actual college town? Not at all. In fact, in most cases, the vast majority of the team's fans live in the metro areas in whatever region the college is located.

If OSU was playing Oregon in Ames, I would expect lots of OSU fans to make the drive from Oklahoma, as well as all of the OSU alumni/fans who live in places like Kansas City and St. Louis.

Just like I suspect that lots of Oregon alumni/fans who live in the Bay Area and NoCal, as well a throughout mid- and southern-Oregon will make the drive to San Jose.

I really don't understand how you could possibly argue that OSU is not at a geographic disadvantage playing Oregon in San Jose.

You're telling me that if OU were a #5 seed and were shipped out to San Jose to play Oregon, you'd have no problem with that? Yeah right.
