Major upset

Thanks for sharing this! A road win at UCLA is a big deal.

Good for Je'lon. I see he started and played 23 of the 45 minutes in the overtime game. He had 4 fouls so that may have limited his minutes some.

This is his junior season, so I hope he has a great two year run with the Hawks.

Nice win for Monmouth. I looked at the box score and was amazed that UCLA lost the game since they had a 60-37 rebounding edge until I noticed they also had 23 turnovers.

Jelon only played 23 minutes. He would have gotten that much as the 6th man for OU.

Jel'on started for Monmouth but had 4 fouls. He will at significantly more there than he would at OU unless he is in foul trouble every game.

The fact that he was able to post the stat line of 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists in ONLY 23 minutes makes it that much more impressive.

Yeah, he had a much better 2nd half than 1st half. Two of his fouls were in the first 2 minutes of the game, and he had 3 fouls in the first half. I'm sure he was a little nervous after sitting out a year. All of his points and rebounds came after halftime. 5 of his 6 rebounds came in the OT period. After a late rebound, he was fouled and iced the game with his 2 FT's with 8 seconds left, and then rebounded the missed UCLA 3 point shot to try and tie it at the 3 second mark.

Wisconsin lost to western Illinois. I said it during the summer, their not going to be very good.

I think they will get a lot better during the season, which we need. Let's get a good win against them, and hope they compete in the Big 10 and give us a good non-con win for seeding time.

Other interesting upsets of note from the first weekend:
Georgia loses to Chattanooga at home
NC State loses to William and Mary
Arizona St loses at home to Sacramento State
Marquette loses to Belmont
Illinois loses to North Florida

This is the kind of thing I love about college basketball...unless the Sooners are on the losing end of course. Parity is so much a part of the game these days, major programs are never safe when they don't come to play against the lesser schools. That's one of the things that makes college hoops the #1 sport in America!
