Marcus Smart is a hell of a player

After this season, it will have been 20 years since either of those things happened.

On a positive spin, since he's a "legendary" coach according to this board, he's probably due.

The point is he has accomplished a lot more than Ford. He knows how to rebuild and run programs the right way and has been extremely successful at each stop. Ford has done nothing at OState, except have a worse record than the season before. They look much better so far but I attribute that to Smart more than Ford. Helluva player.

Kruger's career prior to coming to OU is actually very similar to Eddie Sutton's prior to going back to Stillwater, minus the alcoholism and NCAA issues of course.

He's a helluva lot better than Willie Warren, fellas...

He hasn't done anything close to wwIII's accomplishments yet. He has like 20 points, big deal. Buddy Heild averages close to that off the bench. Also, call me unimpressed with those nc state guards. We have way more athletic guards than they do.

Let it play out before you crown him.

Ford sucks and his assistant coach Pierre is a cheating sob. His dirtiness will catch up before too long.

Smart affects the game in many more ways than Warren ever did.

Exactly. He's always around the ball. If he's going to start knocking down open jumpers and 3s, oh my...

His line tonight

20 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 steals, 4 blocks

OSU, what kind of TO numbers does he have? Does he take care of the ball? He seemed to in the parts I watched. 4 blocks? Wow.

I've seen where some people seem to think he will be at OState 2-3 years, Fraschilla for one. He looks like one and done to me. NBA Draft net has him as a lottery pick. Why wouldn't he come out?

He's just a different breed. When asked what his biggest goal is at OSU and he said "to get his degree". Also said he wants to be a high school coach after he graduates. That's obviously not going to happen, he'll be I'm the NBA but I can see him staying with his bro Forte all 4 years. He's a Tyler Hansbrough type

Boy, I don't see that happening. Nice thought, though. Was Hansbrough a lottery pick after his FR season?

I think he'll be at OSU at least 2.

Wow a lot of people crowning a kid pretty early. Need some tissues to wipe off your hands?

In Lon's 26 seasons he has won ONE regular season conference championship in his entire quarter of a century as a head coach, the Big Ten in 1998. One conference championship 15 years ago when Clinton was in office so good luck with that, the odds and his history aren't exactly on your side. He never even won the Mountain West except the tournament. And yes, we're scared of those monster not top 25 recruiting classes Kruger is pulling in.

Good luck on the season, I got a game to watch.

Okay, so then you agree that he has done more than Ford then, right? You can spin it anyway you want, but Florida was in the crapper when he got there and he made them relevant, Illinois was in the crapper and he recruited classes that Self utilized to great success, stint in the NBA wasn't that successful but that is not uncommon for a college coach, but he comes back and takes a UNLV team that is in the crapper and gets them relevant again.

Unfortunately, Jeff Capel and a few goofballs that thought they were ready for the NBA about three years too early and a stupid loan to obtain a transcript left the OU's program in the crapper. That being said, other than a very small minority which would probably be unhappy with anyone, I haven't seen any OU fan that has been upset with CLK or the direction he has the OU basketball program headed in.

And no, we are not getting "monster not Top 25 recruiting classes", but the players Lon has brought in look pretty good to me. Cousins, Heild, Hornbeak, and Woodard are certainly a good start. I don't personally care about recruiting accolades, I care about being competitive in a tough conference. OU's "best" recruiting class almost sank the program. As OU gets more competitive, I expect that NBA quality players will come at some point. May already have a couple now.

Should have went to Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, NC. Why Sheepherder U. Boone must be paying a pretty penny for 1 year with Smart.

The difference, of course, is that OU fans have never bragged about their fan support in hoops -- quite the opposite. oswho fans, on the other hand...

This isn't true. We were quite proud of our support in the mid to late 80s.

Sorry, that's pre-web. Doesn't count.

I'm kidding. Sort of.

Denver, surely you agree that oswho fans have (at least in the internet era) been much more vocal in touting their fan support than OU ever has. It was a point of pride for them throughout Sutton's tenure and they continued to brag about it until they woke up one day and realized that, with Eddie Sutton gone, their crowds weren't anything to brag about.
