Marques Bolden Update

On the flip side, it looks like Tyson Jolly is available.

Jolly is not a bad player, but we don't need another SG. I think our coaches should focus their full attention to signing the best big available, preferably a muscled-up, blue collar guy who can bang inside. I love tall, lanky, athletic post players. But we've got enough of those, too.

We have depth at every position except at PG. We have a total of 5 post players...6 if you throw Doolittle down low. We're not going to add any other solid post player this late.

Jolly is a guard that we could use next year. He might even start and you wouldn't want to add him? Outside of Woodard, we have no proven guards next year and adding someone as talented as Jolly would be huge. Adding another 4 star guard would be awesome. Its OK to have good guards on the bench to.

No way he starts. Wouldnt see the floor next year for ou.

Well, we have Strong coming in from Juco, he'll be here over the Summer. Grandstaff will be available to play after December 16th, he can play point. Ultimately, I'm fine with the class we have. It leaves open 3 scholarship positions for 2017, which means Manek and then the dream is Young and Porter Jr. Adding 1 more now means we only have 2 scholarships for 2017 (Woodard and AK) and we have one commit and Porter Jr and Young want to play together.

You crack me up. You know exactly whose going to start every year and you are always right :facepalm

The kid was a top 100 guard last year and now he's a year older and you are telling me that he wouldn't even see the floor? You act like the guards we have coming back are all-americans.

That is a poor way to run a program.

Just because we have 3 scholarships now doesn't mean there won't be another one come available. Kruger has had several people transfer since being here.

Kids always talk about playing together and yet they rarely do. Doesn't mean they won't but you would pass on a solid recruit on the potential of landing another one in 2017.

We lose Hield, Cousins, and Walker. We have only Woodard with a lot of minutes under his belt and James just started to get more minutes now and you guys care more about 2 years down the road over next year?

The short version is this, LK knows what he thinks he has in terms of guards next year. If he is comfortable with them, we should be. If he is not, he'll look to add a guard late if Bolden isn't coming, and he won't need our prompting to do so.

Jolly isn't going to be any more ready for D1 ball next year than any of the other guys we have coming back/in. And we're pretty deep at the guard spots already. Woodard. Strong. James. Odomes. Grandstaff. McGusty. We only played 4.5ish guards this year, and I listed 6 above. If those guys have worked hard and made improvements, it's bad business to bring in extra guards that aren't necessarily better, just b/c you have room. Not only that, it disrupts the balance of the roster, both in terms of guards vs posts, and in terms of getting some class balance so we don't lose 4-5 guys at a time. You bring in Jolly, it severely limits your ability to recruit guards for the next year or two, b/c you have so many young ones.

If Jolly was a better player than what we think we have, fine, I would agree. But I don't think he is. So what's the point in adding him? Surely 3-4 of the above 6 guards will be solid enough for OU next year, right? I like their odds more than I like the odds that Jolly would beat any of them out.

Sound logic, WT! I couldn't agree more.

You have opinions correct? I just gave you mine backed with fact.

Why would ou want a kid that didnt qualify out of HS for Cal and then still having trouble a year later and backed out on his commitment?

Please tell me some info that you have that I dont already know about this team?

Why do you feel Jolly would beat these guys out that have been in the system a year with our coaching rather than some prep school coaching.

I'm not saying he would beat them out. I'm saying he is a talented guard that could have gone almost anywhere he wanted and chose to go to Cal along with a bunch of other 5 star recruits. He's a year older now and probably a little more talented. Theres a good chance if he was on our team right now he would be getting James' minutes(not guaranteed though).

James is the best reserve we have coming back and he averages 8.3 minutes a game over the last 10 games and 2.2ppg over the last 10 games and you automatically saying that Jolly couldn't come in and beat him and Odomes out for guard minutes? He's also competing against McGusty and Grandstaff but what they will do is unknown as well. The only thing we are certain of is Woodard.

Adding a top high school guard can't hurt us but only make us better. It doesn't hurt KU to have a top 50 guard like Vick come in and sit the bench.

1st) Would bringing Shake Milton here this year have a bigger impact or smaller impact than our current group of guards that are on our bench?
Answer) Bigger. You can look up his impact on SMU

2nd) And we're pretty deep at the guard spots already. Woodard. Strong. James. Odomes. Grandstaff. McGusty. We only played 4.5ish guards this year, and I listed 6 above. Answer) Did it disrupt Kansas bringing in Coleby(TR), Diallo(top 25 recruit) along with Bragg(top 25 recruit) when you have Ellis, Traylor, Lucas, and Mickelson already on the team? Did it disrupt to bring in Vick(top 50 recruit) when you already have Mason, Graham, Greene, Selden, and Mykhailiuk?

3rd)You bring in Jolly, it severely limits your ability to recruit guards for the next year or two, b/c you have so many young ones.
Answer) So pass on a good guard so that you might be able to get a good guard in the future?

He did qualify he had the GPA and the SAT scores. PC west screwed up on a class. The school messed up his transcript. He is leaving cal because of the potential for NCAA violations. He wants to be in Oklahoma we should sign him
