Mason-Griffin the perfect recruit? Hardly >>> The Oklahoman

I strongly suspect that the main reason that tmg is no longer with us is that he wasn't able to cut the academic portion of his obligations.

I suspect you are right j2d2.

As do I.

And let's be honest, he'll go overseas and begin making a good deal over $100K. It's not NBA money, but it's nothing to sneeze at. And I still think the kid has NBA potential. Whether he ever reaches it, well that's another story.

Interesting article. Hard to argue or disagree with much of the general theme. However, if TMG was in trouble academically and that was the issue, he would never (wll maybe have a very hard time) make it through college.

Assuming he was not in academic purgatory, his decision seems baffling. I wish the guy well whatever happens.

Maybe I'm an idiot but I always thought TMG was pretty quick. That seems to be a newly formed common criticism about him.

yea, he is quick...and he isnt weak either, i dont think strength is an issue...

The tools are there for him to be a good player, but even if he maximized those tools i'm not sure he would have been an NBA player anyway...

a dang good college basketball player tho, that's for sure...

TMG a perfect recruit? No. But still a recruit 90% of the colleges in the country would have taken.

You can recast or revision all you want but TMG was very quick and quite possibly the best ball-handler to ever play at OU. Try to name someone who could dribble as well or pass off the dribble as well as Tommie. Can't be done.

Not Drew Lavender, not Ricky Grace, not Mookie, nor Hollis or Brent Price or Eddie Fields. All fall a little short (no ironic pun intended).

He was an offensive machine with an Allen Iverson skill set. He may have also been an AI type team mate: competitively self-directed, while not trusting his mates could finish. Defensively, it appears he never even considered that end of the court.

You can't blame Capel for recruiting someone with TMG's skill set. It's like seeing a #10 sitting at the end of bar and vowing you'll marry her... before you ever hear her speak.

Grace was at least as good a ball handler and a much, much better passer.

"offensive machine with an Allen Iverson skill set". LOL let's not get nuts here.
