I had a great time when I went in 2014…granted we had a better team.Oh, it would be. And I'm really the only one that cared about the basketball. But I can spend a LOT less for a beach/resort vacation, even though I know Atlantis is amazing.

VERY quick research on my end, but I don't think there was a single P5/P6 conference team that won 22 or 23 games during the regular season last year that was left out of the NCAA Tournament. OU has won 20, 15, and 18 the past three seasons.I don't care what it does for you.
The difference between 20 wins and 22/23 wins is HUGE. One puts you squarely on the bubble. The other can get you a seed that says you should be winning your 1st round game.
One puts us out. One puts us in and going home by Sunday in the first weekend. Barely getting in or one-and-done isn't a success either.I don't care what it does for you.

and what does that quick research show on the NIL support for those P5/P6 teams that won 22 or 23 games? How many had less support than OU?VERY quick research on my end, but I don't think there was a single P5/P6 conference team that won 22 or 23 games during the regular season last year that was left out of the NCAA Tournament. But there is a HUGE difference between the 18-20/21 win range, and the 22-23 win range. Makes all the difference.
I used to be that way. The last few years of Lon bled into the current product and the well ran dry for me. I was upbeat for a few minutes this season, but we circled the drain at the end......as always. Wash, rinse, repeat.I hardly post, just lurked for years. I consider myself the ultimate upbeat, positive person when it comes to OU basketball. I am currently not at present. Hopefully that changes as I want OU basketball to win a national championship in my lifetime more than almost any other sporting achievement.
If your "standard" is higher than what I listed, then you are asking OU to have a standard that they have really never been able to consistently maintain. One puts us out. One puts us in and going home by Sunday in the first weekend. Barely getting in or one-and-done isn't a success either.
Maybe better than now but no one would be happy if that was our standard.
Sorry if I have a higher standard and realize in 2024, you can't achieve that standard without more investment into the program. Which BTW, is how you get a better coach.
Better coach=more $$$$ Better players=more NIL $$$$ Better players, better coach=more winning
The common theme is our basketball program needs more investment/support from the top, not solely a coach that squeezing out a couple of wins to get us to one--and-done.
Optics, more than anything. Even the "slam dunks" aren't slam dunks. Just not a good look. Why is everyone up in arms over the pedulla kid he is ok but not a difference maker either.
You mean bill self*Will Wade perfected the NIL game WAY before it was legal.
UnderOver/Under of 12 wins next season?
Forsythe
Elvis
Cooper
Moore / Cole / Atak
Godwin / Northweather

Seems like the right route to goIt’s time for Porter and Co to just go young. Put what money you have to get young guys who didn’t get a ton of minutes and are looking for a chance (like cooper) or ones looking more offensive opportunity. One that comes to mind is that Iowa state PF. Dude hasn’t been talked about at all since entering but has a lot of potential.
Never been able to consistently maintain?!? Really??If your "standard" is higher than what I listed, then you are asking OU to have a standard that they have really never been able to consistently maintain.
That seems kind of dumb.
Bill Self's burner phone game was/is amazing. You mean bill self*
Did you even read my post about my expectations?Never been able to consistently maintain?!? Really??
From 1983 to 2016 doesn't count?
Very few of those years were we just hoping to get into the tournament. Getting in and getting a win was expected; anything more was celebrated.
But all this is getting off the point. We are losing kids who have visited or those who don't even give us a look because our AD and admin aren't supporting the program. And a lot of that means that we are consistently getting outbid, even for those kids that should be locks.
We aren't losing them solely because our coach fails to get us in the first four in.
So, essentially the kids left for more money. Doesn't matter if Duke thought they weren't worth it or not or even whether or not they could have afforded to pay them their number. The fact is, these kids left for more money. So, his point is accurate.Duke lost five scrubs and two good players. They have the top class in the country coming in and five of the defections would never have seen the floor, and the other two guys likely would have seen their roles change significantly. And do you really think Duke, of all programs, is lacking NIL funds? If they get outbid for a player, e.g., Roach, it isn't because they can't afford him, it is likely because they simply don't think he is worth as much as he is asking for and they are confident they will be fine without him.
I'd rather see us go take a shot at some small school guards that can fill it up at this point. If it fails, it won't really matter next year. Get some guards that can score it, run a guard-centric offense, and let's go.I don’t think we should spend whatever $$$ we have on a center. Spend it all on guards and roll with Godwin, Northweather and Moore.
That’s our only chance to be competitive and it probably won’t work, but paying some overpriced big man to score 4 ppg isn’t going to help.
No, it isn't. Losing kids for money would be if you want to keep them but simply don't have the money to offer them. If you have the money but choose to let five benchwarmers leave because you have better players coming in, that is a roster decision made by the coaches. So, essentially the kids left for more money. Doesn't matter if Duke thought they weren't worth it or not or even whether or not they could have afforded to pay them their number. The fact is, these kids left for more money. So, his point is accurate.
The issue is I think Moser is completely incapable of adapting his offense to his players.I'd rather see us go take a shot at some small school guards that can fill it up at this point. If it fails, it won't really matter next year. Get some guards that can score it, run a guard-centric offense, and let's go.
