MBB Transfer Portal Thread: Moser Year 4

The difference in the top income tax rate between Oklahoma and New York is about 6.15%
And he probably won’t be in their top bracket. But there are city income taxes too. Could they earn the NIL by doing events or tweeting outside of city limits? IDK.

Anyway, plenty of people live in higher taxed areas or higher cost of living areas by choice. Whether it’s smart or not…we all could be going back and forth forever.

Hausen is a 'cat....there's the indicator.

I think OU could have landed Hausen but I don't believe they even tried. Maybe he'll suck and the coaches will look smart, lol. I'd rather have Hausen over Elvis but you know, we'll see.
If you’re worried about landing point guards, I think Elvis is the choice because he’s going to be more capable in that role (whether it’s a primary or secondary role).

Refresher on RJ....

Edit: sometimes tweets don't show up on this site. I'm either dumb or it's some weird glitch (probably the dumb part)

Just out of curiosity, what pushes you away from Elvis so much? It seems almost every guy that has come up or gone somewhere else you would have rather had over Elvis? His style? His size? What you feel this team needs that others bring more? His 3 pt shooting seems fine. Seems like he can handle and dish better than some others OU has been looking at or not looking at. Just curious. I agree that OU should not be bringing him in as the primary ball handler but as a secondary guy he seems to fit. I haven't watched him much but I think he brings enough to the table to be in the top 8 and to contribute on a 20+ win team.

All things being relatively equal, if it comes down to one of the best coaches of all time and an ascending program against a dead man walking, it makes sense if he chooses St. John’s.
All things being equal...he was going to choose OU. A significant enough increase in NIL is why he is choosing SJ...it's as simple as that. I know you want to pin this on PM, but it doesn't really work in this case. Try again...I know you will.

I picked a random game to watch for Elvis...Dayton/SLU.

Interesting so far. Primary ball handlers seem to be (0) Bennett and (24) Elvis. No Bennett, all Elvis handling the ball.

Actually walked a guy into a screen properly, was nice.
Set a back-screen. (Dayton actually running a motion screen offense, similar to us BUT PROPERLY)
He drives, turns it over...but he drives?

Elvis and Bennett sharing PG duties.

Pump fakes, feeds down low.

Dayton actually penetrating, it is nice to watch.

When was the last time you lived in OKC?

Here is a calculator that shows if you make $500k in OKC, you would need to make $840k in NYC to keep the same life style

When was the last time you lived in NYC?

Does that calculator factor in that the individual is a collegiate athlete on full scholarship with housing, clothing, medical, food and so on all fully (partially at the very least) covered? The major difference in that calculation was housing and even if he lives in an apartment and not campus housing, he'll get help with his rent from the university, just as athletes do at OU.

He likely won't own a car (millions of New Yorkers don't). If he does, he's not going to be driving it every day. And he'll be well able to afford a hybrid or fully electric vehicle. So you can drop gas as a key factor in the equation.

The notion that state and local taxes are going to be front of mind for a 20-year-old student-athlete who's getting nearly everything paid for PLUS a six-figure salary is, I have to say, LOL-worthy (that may be my first LOL on this board--it's not a term I use. Congrats!)

And if he's drawn to NYC itself (that is, if he's not just chasing the money), then talking about lifestyle is pointless. Life here is very different from Norman/OKC. Whether it's better or worse is subjective and up to the individual, but a "lifestyle" calculator can't begin to factor in the differences that exist in lifestyle between the two cities.

He will have his housing, food, and health care paid for. And he probably won’t need gas in NYC. Those are the four things it says it is comparing.
If you think a 5th year Senior is going to eat university food, no matter how good the food is for the athletes, I would disagree.

Could be the same with housing. Doubt those guys are wanting to live on campus, and while they'll get help if they choose to live on their own, it likely wouldn't be fully covered.

Just in case you wanted/needed more proof on Scott, lol.

Dad's newest follows (after going on a pro-OU follow spree the other day).

This is from this morning.

Yall keep saying he will have his housing, food, and healthcare paid for. I would push back on that some.
Those living off campus may get some type of stipend for housing but we do not know if it covers any rental amount.
Same for food. They have access to all the food they want on campus but if they go off campus are they getting food paid for? IDK. I'm sure there is an allowance of sorts. Health care is free for football related injuries...is all health care free?

Also how will these benefits change now that the students can earn income?

I doubt the figures that Scott is allegedly getting but I have little doubt that st John’s offered more (probably significantly). Glad ou isn’t matching their offer. Still well over a thousand players in the portal.

Having said that, please figure this NIL **** out, OU! Fire the entire compliance department for starters and use that money for NIL.

Echo the compliance piece. There is no punishments anymore. Ncaa is feckless and on borrowed time anyway

But i like not letting players run us up sometimes. Screw them. There are plenty out there still imo.

Yeah, I don’t understand why it’s so difficult for people to acknowledge/accept this reality. He’s a kid in his early 20s playing college basketball, god forbid the taxes are higher.

He’s probably making a (relatively) bad dollar and cents decision but oh well. OKC is nice, NYC is nice. People are drawn to different things.

We gotta focus on other players. We know SJU was going to drop a bag that was worth more than OU's offer. Porter hasn't been the best in the portal, but his hands are tied when it comes to that situation.

He can land Godfrey, Pedulla and Garrison are still in play. JJ's visiting this week from LBSU. I'm not trying to sunshine pump or anything, but he can put together a solid roster. He just needs another domino to fall besides Kobe Elvis (which as of now, I wish he would be a Darthard type off the bench).

As i say that.. the pathetic groveling ncaa gave back the hesiman trophy to reggie bush today and has reinstated him. Lolol. Yayyy. No accountability ever

Athletes have always gotten stipends that more than cover what you’re pointing out.
