There is a game today. I cant find any coverage for it. No radio? Any coverage at all for the games this fall?

I don't know anything about the softball media coverage but Patti Gasso has it "goin' on". She's a great coach.

You're welcome to post here, but there are several softball threads under the "Women's Hoop Talk" forum and some of those posters might not look on the men's forum.

LOL. j2d2 is one of the posters you were referring to.

OK. You got me. I just looked at the forum and saw several threads about softball. I didn't read them. Honestly, I don't pay much attention to the softball team until post-season play. I know Patti always has a good team so she can both recruit and coach.

I also didn't pay any attention to the fact j2d2 has been a long-time poster and knows his way around. Brain fart.

These are also more like college sports' version of "exhibition season." The OU baseball also has a "fall schedule," but the games don't count in any records.

To change the subject slightly, I was interested to know the following:

How many of you ever attended a softball game while at OU (or later)?

How many ever attended a baseball game while at OU (or later, excluding the post season tournament)?

What sports beyond men's football and men's basketball have you personally attended?

I suspect some or even several have been to women's basketball. I have never attended any sports other than football and men's basketball. I have watched parts (and possibly entire post season) women's basketball games on TV. I have watched OU play baseball in the post season. I have watched parts of softball on TV (post season).

I actually don't recall anyone even suggesting I attend one of those things with them? I find that odd about baseball but I truly don't remember a single friend ever saying lets go to the baseball game.

Denver, since you asked ...

While in school at OU in the 1970s, I attended all football games, plus some men's basketball games, baseball games, and wrestling matches.

In recent times (over the past 15-plus years) I have had season tickets for football, as well as men's and women's basketball. I have also been to the occasional wrestling match, baseball game and softball game.

The one constant for me has been men's basketball, as I have had season tickets since 1977.

I currently have season tickets for football and men's basketball. I do have friends that ask me to join them at the occasional softball, baseball and wrestling contest. Different friends have different interests.

No doubt that we all have different interests.

How many people attend wrestling matches (on average of the ones you have attended)? Is it hundreds?

I too was at OU in the 1970s, and I too attended all the football games and a good number of men's basketball games

I also went to the occasional baseball game and to a couple of wrestling matches. I attended no women's sports while I was in college, but I've been to several women's basketball games since and I watch the softball team in postseason play (and maybe a game or two during the regular season) every year; I sometimes watch the women's basketball team on TV, too.

Yes, an OU wrestling match has an attendance in the hundreds. My interest in wrestling dates back to my Del City school days as I was on the wrestling team from the 4th grade through the 10th grade. I first tried out for basketball back in grade school, but only 15-20 kids made the basketball team and the other 30 or 40 kids got cut. So, as a youngster I became a wrestler in the off-season between football and baseball.

I remember attending my first college wrestling match when I was in the 7th grade and our junior high coaches took the entire team to Stillwater to watch OSU duels with Oregon and Oregon State at Gallagher Hall on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

Back in the early 1980s, OU wrestling matches used to draw bigger crowds. I remember a Bedlam wrestling match held at the LNC when the place was packed to the rafters with more than 10,000 fans. Those OU teams had the Schultz brothers (Dave and Mark) that went on to win Olympic Gold medals. Steve "Doctor Death" Williams was the heavyweight for OU in that match. It was truly bedlam inside the LNC as OSU wrestling fans traveled in droves back in those times.

In 1984 Mark and Dave Schultz both won Olympic Gold in wrestling events, as did the American twin Banach brothers. The following year Mark won the World Championships and faced competitors from all the Eastern bloc countries who had boycotted the 1984 Olympics. In the World finals, Mark built a 10-2 lead after one minute and won 10-5. Mark Schultz is the only 1984 Olympic Champion to win the 1985 World Championships; his brother Dave was the only 1984 Olympic Champion to have won the 1983 World Championships. The Schultz brothers won more NCAA, U.S. Open, World, and Olympic titles than any American brother combination in history.

My attendance at OU games is a lot like skyvue's. I graduated from OU in 1969 which makes me old. I went to football games and men's basketball games mostly, but also attended some baseball games and wrestling matches. I honestly couldn't tell you if OU even had a women's basketball team or softball team while I was in school. I even went to some Big 8 pre-season basketball tournaments, and some Big 8 wrestling tournaments.

I moved from the Norman/OKC area after graduation but have come back to watch some football games and men's basketball games. I've even watched a few wrestling matches and tournaments. (I have a friend whose son wrestled for OU, and another friend whose son wrestled for Cornell and won a national championship). I have never watched an OU women's team play any game in person. Never. But I would if I lived in the area now. I do watch some OU women's basketball games on TV whenever I can, and I watch the softball team play in the postseason tournaments. Honestly, I watch any OU sporting event on TV if I know about it, and have the time.

I think the only women's games I ever watched live were the basketball games I refereed back when I officiated HS basketball games. I did watch the Houston Comets women's WNBA team play live 1 or 2 times because I got free tickets.

I'm coming to Edmond this weekend, but am not going to the WVU football game. Instead I'm watching my 6 y/o and 10 y/o grandsons play in their tackle football games on Saturday afternoon.... in Stillwater. My son has 4 good season tickets, but I think he sold the WVU tickets on Stubhub. Obviously, we were hoping for a 7:00 pm kickoff.

Back in the late 60's and 70's, it wasn't unusual for a wrestling match to out-draw a men's basketball game. Especially for a bedlam match. I remember watching guys like Greg Ruth, Wayne Wells, Rod Kilgore, Cleo McGlory, etc. wrestle for the Sooners. A lot of the bedlam matches were televised because they sold out.

I have a good friend who wrestled for OSU at 115 lbs and now weighs 190. Those guys tortured themselves to make weight. Still do probably.

On the other hand, I loved the preseason Big 8 basketball tournaments in Kansas City between Christmas and New Year's. They always played 4 games on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I remember going to a game on a Saturday morning between the 7th/8th place teams (both teams lost their first 2 games). There were about 25 fans in the stands for that game, but it was standing room only for the championship game later that night.

Early 2000's

Attended football, mens basketball, baseball, softball and wrestling.

I have also attended 8 or so WCWS and made one trip to Omaha (OUs last trip a few years ago)

Never been to a womens bball game but have watched many on TV over the years. I have also watched mens and womens gymnatics on TV in recent years along with a few soccer games.

I really, truly and honestly enjoy OU softball.

I never attended one women's sporting event at OU because they didn't have one single women's sports team when I was in school.

I did always have All-Sports tickets, and I attended almost all basketball games in the old fieldhouse. The crowds were often so small that you could study there. I also attended a great number of wrestling and gymnastics events and went to baseball games when possible since they were across the street from my dorm. I attended a couple of track meets, but there was no attempt to keep the fans aware of what was going on. I went to a couple of tennis meets.

If I remember right, when I was a freshman, season football tickets were $6 (for the season). Texas tickets were an additional dollar. The All-sports ticket cost $2 and permitted you to attend every sporting event at OU. I never went to a swim meet.

I graduated 35 years ago from OU. I did see a few women's basketball games, but only when they played as the first half of a men's/women's doubleheader. The women's teams weren't even NCAA sanctioned back then. They often played the "directional" schools in Oklahoma in basketball and softball. To be honest, the only OU women's sports team I saw play in person was the basketball team.

Wrestling was a fairly big deal back then. Men's basketball was just starting to take hold back in '77 when the guys when undefeated at home and almost won the Big 8 (and they did in '79). Baseball was almost as popular with the students as wrestling was, but back then they played at Haskell Park. Gymnastics also had some interest, but I don't think we had a women's team until several years after I graduated.

Since then, I've seen several women's basketball games at OU and got to see a few softball games after moving back to Oklahoma. I did see some gymnastics last season when my mom got really interested in it, and I also caught one volleyball match when OU played Tech.

I attend OU for undergraduate school in the early 60's graduating in 1965. We had a student season football ticket and a student season all sports ticket I had both and attended most all events held on campus. Made most of the Texas games and frequented OSU, KSU and Kansas football and basketball games on the road.

Because of the absence of TV win the football team was on the road myself and friends also would go to Stillwater to root for the pukes. This was before the pukes got a terminal case of Sooner Syndrome. Now I only wish them ill will.

Retired in Norman and have season football, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, softball and wrestling tickets. Make all these games except when the baseball and softball are both at home at the same time. Even then I can occasionally watch the softball game and then catch the last 3 innings of the baseball game. Also make an occasional track meet and volleyball game.

Do try to make a couple men's and women's gymnastic meets but do not have season tickets. Did see the men's NCAA Finals and women's B12 Championship last year.

Try to make one or two away football games per year will make Tennessee and Baylor this year. Made it to Fiesta, Sugar, Orange and Rose Bowl games. Made all the losing efforts for the MNC in Stoops era. Missed FSU. Will no longer go to Tech in Lubbock as I and friends have had too much damage done to our cars while there. Their fans compare to LSU fans. Nebraska, Notre Dame and Alabama fans in that order are the best I have seen in my travels.

When was that? Shocking that they had no women's sports.

If I recall correctly season football tickets were $25 when I was a student in 1985 (Texas was extra).

Pretty sure there were no women's NCAA (or AIAW) teams until the mid 70s, I think.
