Meet the next Steph Curry

It is a bit early to be calling him the next Steph Curry. A 2-time MVP is not a fair comparison to anyone, at least not yet. Young is a very, very good player, and I am glad he chose OU. He will only get better, also! But to see these comparisons to Curry, it sickens me that we can't let the kid be the first Trae Young. We have to find that other-worldly comparison.

I don't think Steph Curry is the right comparison. In fact, I think wanting to be like Steph Curry is actually hurting Trae, because he tries those long pull up 3s that Steph always takes, and he is shooting a really low percentage on those.

I think a slightly less athletic but better shooting Allen Iverson is a better comparison.

Trae has said repeatedly that Curry isn't who he models himself after. That's the media's thing, not his.

He can say that, but the pull up and jack a 3 from 30 feet is basically the signature Curry move. And Trae would be a better palyer if he stopped doing it.

mmm, no. He should keep doing it IMO.

Agreed. He can hit it 35%+ when he's in rhythm/unguarded, and it really spreads the defense out when he can hit that shot.

exactly. as well as trae dribbles and passes it makes perfect sense to force defenders out higher on him giving him more open court to break them down. it's a shot he routinely hits so it's something they must guard.

Exactly.......it brings the D out to him, making it that much easier for him to see the court and to go around his man if he comes out too far. It helps him and the team....as long as he hits it at a reasonable rate, the D has to chase him.

Trae isn’t on the same planet as Iverson athletically. And Iverson’s game was built around driving to the basket and getting fouls or taking contested midrange jumpers.

Don’t think I’ve seen a player as close to Curry’s game as Trae. He’s not as good (right now. He’s better than curry was as a freshman), but it’s the same blueprint.
