The higher ups at OU couldn't care less about the women, we all knew that.
All they cared about was Sherri rubbing shoulders with donors at dinner parties.

True but Joe C. is supposed to be smart enough to know WBB is the lead program in women's sports circle on a national basis despite the success of women's gymnastics and softball.

Dragging his feet has allowed a team extremely short on interior length with theoretically 6 available scholarships, assuming Llanusa returns, to lose the first 15-21 days of potential recruiting for the new coach in the first year of massive participation in the transfer portal which perhaps is the best source for that interior length.

If all the coaches on your list are still active in the tournament you don't set up interviews with them until their seasons are over so the fact that Sherri retired 8 days before Lon doesn't mean you have an 8 day headstart on signing a women's coach.

As much as we all like women's basketball, we have to be realistic. Any AD in D1 basketball who has to sign both a men's and women's basketball coach is probably going to sign the men's coach first unless they are just going to promote from within.

If a school had an AD for men's sports and a different AD for women's sports it might be possible to conduct the search and interview process for 2 coaches simultaneously.

Of course it is normal to wait until the tournament is over. But Joe is the one who has always bragged that he has a "ready and waiting" list for new coaches at every sport.

And it isn't a one-man show on this type of thing except he is the BIG dog on doing the beginning-to-end of any serious discussions. Yeah, 8 days isn't too long...but it didn't take him that long on Lon's replacement did it? Maybe it did. I don't know because I don't know or care about OU men's basketball and I haven't since Billy Tubbs left.

I think Joe C. could have easily had a WBB coach hired by now unless he is getting a handful of rejections from his candidates.

High ranking corporate decision makers make simultaneous major hires not daily by with frequent regularity. I have done so myself.

Corporate executives with regularity are required to make simultaneous hires for major positions and do so in a timely fashion. I know I have done it myself.

I don't accept that college women's sports should be treated as second class...this is why I would like someone to ask Joe about it. The only way to change this is to make it clear to administrators that this attitude will come at a significant PR cost.

As long as comparable men's and women's sports have significant differentials in attendance and revenue. They are going to be perceived differently by the national media because they are catering to aviewing/reading audiences that maximize their revenues and profitability.

What the national media sells works its way down to the local media to a large degree and ditto to the fans becoming the consensus viewpoint.

This a capitalistic culture where often unfortunately the dollar drives the consensus perspective in most cases. In fact there is still a relatively large faction of the sports viewing audience that believes they should eliminate Title IX and women's sports in general as they do not see women as true athletes because generally speaking they are not as big, as fast, as strong, etc.
 
It is what it is. We have Title IX. I believe the University of Oklahoma does have an interest in women's basketball succeeding. Plenty of people follow the sport and when the team does well a lot of people follow the games. When the team has done well consistently the attendance at games has been good.

There has been a good cadre of loyal fans attending games which due to the long slide in performance has dwindled. If we could get a good coach maybe the situation can be turned around.

I don't understand why so many are dissing our program and team. There is a constant theme that we don't have Div I players and that so and so can't play defense.

The fact is that we were one win from having a winning conference record and from going to the NCAA. And everyone but Simpson is back and she was hardly playing by the middle of the season. Add to that Ana should be back. We upset Texas and Iowa State.

College defenses are complicated. No one can stay in front of today's good ball handlers and help schemes have been designed to counteract the increased athleticism. Seems every time someone has a bad game they are accused of being a lousy defender.

Joe C has made a lot of good hires so I am confident that he will do OK with this one. It is hard to believe that a lot of small school coaches and assistant coaches would not be interested in this job. It is possible that Harris went to Auburn because she was not on Joe C's list. Hard to believe that Auburn has a better potential program than OU.
 
Basketball is only the "lead program" in women's sports because ESPN is trying to shove it down our throats. The quality of play in women's basketball is very very poor compared to men's. Anyone who watches any softball can see right away that these girls are good athletes and can really play their sport, and I'm not just talking OU, although they are the shining example of that right now. They play their sport every bit as well as college baseball players, maybe better considering how close the pitcher is. Jada Coleman, Kinsie Hansen, Tiare Jennings, Nicole Mendes, Jocelyn Alo- all great players and great athletes. Give our softball team a month to practice they would give the basketball team a run for their $..
 
Has Stephanie Norman got a job. She is an assistant at Louisville. GA has an assistant that is 34 help recruit 2 top 5 classes at Rutgers. What about the HC at Florida Gulf Coast. I know he is a man. Great record. Smesko is his name. Not sure. Assistant coaches are out looking for a chance.
 
I thought OU would be able to get a big time coach to come in like Texas did with Vic, maybe land Wes Moore since he’s from the DFW area... but with the job being open for so long, I think I need to lower my expectations. At this point I expect us to land a mid major coach, hopefully it’s someone who is successful with some type of winning system in place. Like the coaches from South Florida, South Dakota State, or Florida Golf Coast.
 
Oh, that would disappointing. I was hoping for someone that has the gravitas and recruiting chops to come in and begin to solidly turn things around in year 2 or maybe 3. It could still happen, but it is worrisome. Maybe Joe did put the job on the back burner, or maybe he's waiting for someone to decide. I just can't decide what is the most likely.

And, I'm an impatient boy/old man.
 
Did Joe ever contact Hammon? I have not heard if she was ever contacted. The men have 20 reporters constantly looking for info. James Hale was the only one who covered women's basketball. No one asking questions. Therefore no rush.
