Michelle Voepel - Top Candidates to Replace Sherri Coale

With Courtney's and Jackie Stiles names I would expect getting a new job will not be difficult. But getting a high paying job at a Power 5 school might be another thing.

Now that Texas has lost it is time for Joe C to get on with hiring Sherri's replacement.

Rumor has it that Rice head coach Tina Langley is in prime position to be the next Auburn head coach. Another interesting layout to this is that Langley’s first move would be to hire former Tigers great and current Eastern Kentucky head coach Samantha Williams as an associate head coach, multiple sources tell The Ball Out.

I spoke to some sources today. The word I got was that the candidate(s) they are focusing on was/were still playing this past weekend. I took that to mean Harris is firmly in play...... but i could be way off. Lol

Someone has inside information on the other board, but they haven’t revealed that information yet... they did say whoever Joe is looking at has ties to the OU program, I’m starting to think it could be Jackson-Durrett.

Rumor on the Worms board is that the new OU coach will be named on Friday, someone else on the board said that if Harris or Jackson-Durrett is named that they will probably bring Blair Schaefer in as an assistant coach...

Wouldn’t you think that if Harris or Jackson came here that Blair’s dad would move her into an assistant job at Texas?

That is the state of nepotism in the college athletic scene that has existed for about the last decade. Unfortunately!!! It is bad business for any employee to be hired by or become a direct report of a close relative, period.

Most definitely a nepotism can work well with a particular individual but the problems resolving the issue when the problem does arises warrants avoiding the issue and not exposing your organization to the circumstances.

For certain hiring Colton Coale as a totally unproven assistant coach is not an attempt to get the best man for the job. And Colton was likely there permanently had Sherri not retired. For certain she was not going to replace him.

Likewise there is never just 1 best person for a job as there are always multiple top candidates. Getting one of those top candidates is best served by avoiding/minimizing exposure to potential high risk situations. Nepotism is one of those high risk. JMHO.

Most definitely a nepotism hiring can work well. But it is the problem fixing the problem when it doesn't work. That can of worms is best avoided all together as it resolution can heavily damage the entire organization.

John Ontjes from Hutchinson Community College would be a good candidate too. OU guard in the 90's for Billy and Kelvin. Super successful at HCC. Just won another conference title last night. He's a great recruiter and gets the most out of his players.

JR Coale may be the only one willing to take this coach..Joe might have zipped the pocket book up

That would be sad if true, inoref. Those players deserve better. They played their hearts out this season.

I would be terribly upset if they named the new head coach as someone that was already on the staff, like Stiles or junior. To me that would mean they were holding out for someone that was still in the tournament and that person declined the offer and they went with their last resort. Of course on the Texas women's forum they are fairly certain Harris will be our new coach and the announcement will be made tomorrow. That would be a fantastic hire if so, and if true I would think she would bring in some of those Mississippi State post transfers immediately. Fingers crossed folks!

Texas board is leaning towards Cori Close being named head coach... she’s from Southern California so I’m not sure why she would leave for OU. I’m not sure how to feel about that, her recruiting is always inconsistent to me, she has had strong classes before, but definitely not consistently...

Please not Close. She always has a lot of talent but never wins anything important. Her teams lose a lot of games they should win and often fade late in the game. I have watched a lot of Pac-12 games and her teams often underperform. It seems to be a matter of consistency.

No, she was not an assistant but do you think a high school head coach would be better. I think Dionnah Jackson-Durrett has learned from one of the best over the past half a decade. She can definitely recruit - for that part she is absolutely a proven commodity.

Michael Neal at Norman would be great. His Norman High girls have one lose in the last three years and two state 6A championships. And the middle year was canceled. He’s a Sooner.
