Michelle Voepel - Top Candidates to Replace Sherri Coale

Agree, but Castiglione hired Kruger at age 58.

True, but the circumstances aren't the same. The men's program was in the NCAA doghouse. When Lon was hired, we needed a coach who could build the program back up and impress the NCAA with our intention of having a clean program. Lon fit the bill perfectly.

and Kruger had a heck of a resume as a head coach compared to Overton..if Overton is the choice than i would get the feeling the realistic choice of candidates is not very big...

The other board threw out the name Becky Hammon, I think it’s a bit of a long shot, since I think she’s hanging around to see if she’ll get the chance to replace Pop, but you never know...

Since a coach hasn’t been named just yet it could mean Joe has no idea who he’s going to bring in, but I hope it’s a coach still in post season play... Langley has Rice still in the WNIT and Harris and Jackson- Durrett with Texas in the NCAA tournament...

Could it be Michael Neal? Possibly but OU was successful bring in a high school coach to be a head coach a Power 5 school once defying all the odds. Very doubtful that selection would be successful a second time. I vote a resounding NO on Michael Neal. JMHO!

Played power 5. Ou alumni.

Just a suggestion. Just because someone coaches HS doesn’t make them ill equipped.

Poppycock. Nor does playing at OU make them an ideal hire either. One could argue being an OU grad may tend to make it an emotional decision to hire one of their own instead of a logical decision to get the best person for the job based on experience and success coaching at OU's level of play (Power 5 D-1). For certain coaching at a Norman high school does not equate to coaching a Power 5 school.

There are exceptions to the rule but being only a high school coach with no D-I college coaching or recruiting experience for top D-I level players against the top college coaches in the country does emphatically make one more ill qualified relative to other very successful D-I college coaches interested in the job. Consequently the risk factor hiring a high school coach is significant. And OU can ill afford to take that risk and experience another 5 years of team failures.

I think it is the norm for AD's to wait till after the Final Four to hire coaches. It will be interesting to see what Joe C. does.

There is usually a coaches convention during the Final Four. Athletic Directors sometimes use that meeting to meet with potential candidates. I'm not even sure they are having that convention this year.

With the news that Langley and Harris will both be named P5 coaches soon, I think we could hear some news by next week. If Rice keeps advancing they will be in the WNIT championship game Sunday, Texas season will also be coming to an end this weekend.

You are absolutely right. The other thing is that if the coach is still playing, he won't bother them until their season is over whether they are a Head Coach or Assistant. It is more important to get the right person than to be in a hurry especially with recruiting being limited to virtual visits right now.

Langley, Langley, Langley, Langley.

Hammons, Hammons, Hammons, Hammons.

If I type their names enough, I'm hoping to make one of them the next coach.

Dionnah Jackson Durrett. Book it

10% chance IMHO. Joe C. is not going to hire the #3 coach at Texas to become the top dog in Norman. OU fans could easily be in extreme ire with her hire. She would get my strong support initially but we would need to see a significant positive change in short order.

I really don't know much about any of these coaches mention, but I guess it would be a huge improvement

This is one OU fan, long time WBB fan, including when Dionnah played here, very popular player, experience at two big time women's program, her hiring would be met with enthusiasm and optimism, not ire by me and many others

I'm with you "bob". I tend to be in favor of hiring an existing head coach, but
will be enthusiastic of anyone Joe C hires, unless it is some crazy off the wall hire (like the baseball coach from Witchita who accepted an then backed out).
Seriously, I'm 95% sure he will make a good hire. I hope it is a great hire.

I’m with Bob, Dionnah checks a lot of boxes for me. I think she would make a great head coach and it would get her away from a big rival, too. lol

Johnnie Harris is my top choice at the moment, if she was brought in I’m sure defense would be a high priority and we would likely see an improvement on that side of the ball immediately... she would also target any 2022 and 2023 players that were being recruited by Texas since she would be familiar with them, maybe she’ll bring in a Transfer or two from Mississippi state.
