For months, speculation has raged that two basketball teams were going to make their way to an aircraft carrier for a basketball game next season. Like Brett Favre's retirement, the talk seemed so ubiquitous as to almost make it less believable. But according to Insidecarolina.com, UNC coach Roy Williams confirmed the rumor last night by announcing that his Heels would play Michigan State next fall on an aircraft carrier in San Diego.

The game is to be held on Veteran's Day (Nov. 11) in San Diego, and has long been in the works, according to Williams. It will be a celebration of the role of the military in American society and early speculation has suggested that the game will be held on the deck of the U.S.S. Reagan. North Carolina Athletic Director Larry Gallo said that the two teams have agreed to the game and the United States government has also signed off on the event.

The specifics of the game are still speculative, although it has been reported for a few months that it would likely be a doubleheader, with Michigan State and UNC following a game between two of the service academies. The unique setting will of course set off a scramble for tickets and the question as to who will actually get to attend the event is still up in the air. But with the news from Williams that all systems are a go, we are set for what may be one of the most innovative and interesting sporting events that I can ever remember.

SWEET!

They could have the game in 2 plants reactor compartment and use EOS for a broadcast booth!

it will probably be in the hangar bay so that shouldnt be a problem unless they throw it right toward the waist cat elevator.

I'd do that...err...whatever you said...ON PURPOSE...:dance005:

Hopefully they will play with chain nets and red, white, and blue striped basketballs.

I'd be p---ed if I was a student at MSU. They play like 438749 non-con games against great teams every year and almost none of them are actually at the Bres.

From a neutral standpoint though, this could be interesting to watch.
