Miles, Bieniemy, and Calixte

I was thinking the same thing. I understand the level of opposition wasn’t that great but I was impressed with those three guys!!

yeah, exactly! Miles is really quick and disruptive, Callixte is steady, and Bieniemy is aggressive and physical. I think this group can be pretty decent if this is the style and direction we're gonna see.

Yes, all three showed promise. And Kuath, too. We missed some shots we should have hit, but we hustled throughout and rebounded well. And the defense, even considering who we were playing, was pretty good, a few ragged stretches aside. Manek had a good night, with a few missed shots that will fall on most nights. McNeace was very impressive at times -- I think he's going to be more improved than some here predict. And Polla and Freeman showed some signs of progress, too, though I'm reserving judgement on them till we see them against better competition.

Thanks, Sky! The box score seems to suggest that Muni and Brady had good games. Muni with 15, 6 and 5 blocks. Manek with 12 points and 13 boards. Both players in only 17 minutes.

No one on the team played mire than 21 minutes (two actually, Doolittle and Calixte).

OU did what they were expected to do against an inferior team, winning by 34. Our defense must have been fairly decent as well in holding PSU to 25% shooting from the field.

The big guys up front scored 49 points and grabbed 33 rebounds. Muni, Manek, Polla, Freeman, and Kur.

I didn't see the game, but not sure why you are so pumped about Calixte. Played more minutes than anyone on the team and had 2 points and 3 rebounds against the Fighting Gorillas of Pitt State. 0% from 3 and 20% from the field.

Kur had 6 points and 8 rebounds in 11 minutes, including 4 offensive rebounds. Didn't like what you saw from him?

Calixte will be fine. Was a facilitator. 4 assists, 1 TO,

Wanted to get others involved, didn't look to score much. More to it than a box score.

For me Reynolds was the most impressive of the 3. Even though the box score says that, sometimes box scores don't capture court presence and defense, then there are the easy points where you have to screw up not to score. Reynolds may not start but he will average more than 18 minutes in tough games.

I went to the game last night and had a few thoughts.

Calixte will be great for us. You can't see what he was doing last night in the box score. He is very quick and composed. Actually a better defender than what I was expecting.

Bieniemy is going to be a great player. He has such a smooth stroke. Not sure how I felt him wearing 24!

Miles is a competitor. He will be a good rotational player. I noticed he doesn't like to shoot from 3 much. There were a handful of times he hesitated when open and once he was open, he pump faked took two steps in to take a jumper.

Brady is making incredible strides. Teams are going to focus on stopping him. Will be interesting to see how he adapts. I love how quickly he shoots the ball. Catches it and doesn't bring it down in his motion. Freeman needs to learn from him. Freeman has the slowest shooting motion (he got blocked twice last night because of it)

Muni looks like he has put on weight. Looks confident. Also seems that he was worked on his free throws alot (specifically his form). He didn't have the hitch in his shooting motion as before.

Odomes will be odomes. We all know what he is good at and where he struggles.

The one guy who might take a step down from last year is James. He struggles to create his own shot because he can't create separation from defenders (his first step is slow). He was the largest benefactor from Trae last year. He got to sit on the wing/corner with his feet set, ready to pull the trigger. Hopefully Calixte can help create for him and hopefully manek and muni will draw more attention to open him up.

Just some random thoughts after watching the game last night. Honestly, I am really excited about this team. We have alot of mature, stronger and older guys. Which, goes such a long way.

I agree the defense looked agressive and athletic. We moved the ball very well on offense which was missing last year for obvious reasons. My only gripe... and hopefully it was just exhibition game testing... was having Polla, Freeman and Lazenby on the court at the same time for several minutes in both halves. i don't think any of them will play a ton of minutes in regular season but personally don't like them all 3 on the court at the same time. We'll see though. I'm intrigued at what this team could be if it falls in place though!

Great info! Thanks Boomer

They will never be on the court at the same time unless it's a blowout. Honestly, unless one of them improved a ton, I don't see them getting minutes at all unless foul trouble happens or injuries. Maybe some in the weaker non-conference games.

bieniemy looked every bit of 6'5, and may have grown another inch during the game. aggressive and looked to set guys up.

I dont know why. I thought callixte was good. He was just calm and steady and ... mature. This whole backcourt group was mature and to me thats a welcomed sight. Couldnt agree more about Miles. He's gonna be a very nice player for us and Bieniemy was golden for a newb. He's large and in charge.

I really couldn't tell much from the game, Pitt was so small. New guys were okay but the whole team really needs to work on shooting the ball. Far as being better than last year or as good...dunno yet

... but the whole team really needs to work on shooting the ball.

dude, it's an exhibition game with an entire new nucleus of a backcourt and an obvious major emphasis on defensive performance ... and that's what you took from it?

Miles reminds me of former Sooner, Jaison Williams.

Miles is a nice breath of fresh air. He goes at 100% all over the court and seems to always have a smile or positive comment. He also has some excellent sportsmanship. He was chatting with the Pitt State guys and helped a few of them up. Then they pan to him on the bench and you see him yucking it up with Polla and Brady and Bieniemy. I liked the story of how he cancelled the rest of his visits and committed when he visited OU. To me that seems like just the kind of guy we needed to fill an upperclassman role for our team.

Yep, I'm looking forward to watching Reynolds this season and, especially attitude- and approach-wise, we may end up wishing we'd had him longer than a year.
