My thoughts during the game, is that they need to capture every call on each basket made. Then divide OUs and MSUs and see the difference in the infliction and excitement of his voice.
Very disturbing game to listen to, knowing your team is caving and the announcers are encouraging it
It reminded me of the '81 Orange Bowl telecast. That was the OU-FSU rematch, and NBC's crew was awful, especially Bob Trumpy. Unfortunately, OU just missed out on shutting them up like J.C. Watts and Co. did to NBC that night (we won, 18-17, for those who weren't born yet).
I usually think this complaint is overblown, but it was pretty blatant tonight.
However, what drives me even more insane is the total lack of preparedness. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that neither Verne nor Spenarkle watched a single minute of OU in advance of tonight. I swear, the sum total of their "scouting" was off of a crib sheet some intern handed them 15 minutes before tipoff. All of this in light of the fact that they had an entire week to scout 4 teams. Just a very poor all around broadcast.
Reminds me of our - KC - post season last year. The announcing crews seemed to have no idea that we had the league's best defense and ran the bases like a track team. Every time we would make another great play they would act like they couldn't believe it. We'd been seeing that all year and had gotten used to it. At least the guys doing the WC and the ALDS were used to it by the ALCS. Now Joe buck is another story. Verne and these guys have nothing on him.
