Much to the chagrin of many...

Based on the last 30 years of OU bball makes you think that:

1) Boosters will buyout Moser’s deal &
2) Castiglione will make a better hire &
3) Castiglione will work with boosters to bump OU mbb’s NIL budget by 50% (just to get OU to the SEC’s average NIL budget)

especially while the football program is in flames.
The football program is not in flames. Had a terrible 2024 season. I'm confident the Sooners will be a completely different team this season.

That said, here's what I'm actually posting about. I don't have a firm opinion either way about Moser, even though I'd really like to seem him win a few more games and make the tourney. But I can't help but laugh at the posts that show up ad nauseam where the posters sound like screaming lunatics. It reminds me of those old western TV shows where an angry mob tries to bring hell down on the sheriff and his deputy. A participant in the average lynch mob would likely wet their britches if challenged by a Matt Dillon or a Donald Trump type.

Might as well simmer down, folks. There won't be any lynchings before the 24-25 season plays out.

Hmmm… haven’t seen any “screaming lunatics” but it is a message board and people will discuss the topics at hand. If you’re that bothered you don’t have to read them. You can also put the “screaming lunatics” on ignore. Problem solved!

Football team could just as easily win 5 games as much as 10. They aren't any better than most of their schedule anymore.

I'm not sure you see OU basketball get more NIL even without paying for a new coach and buy out and all that.

Nah, I would never rob myself of an opportunity to be entertained by hilarious posts from folks like yourself and the two "likes" you received above.

Almost as hilarious as posts by people who think Brent and the football program are on the right track. Do you already have the injuries/NIL/misc. other excuses ready for next season?

I never make excuses – for Venables, Moser or any other Oklahoma coach. Just always wish all the OU programs well.
Well, we have had two losing seasons in the past three years, and you posted this week that the program is not in shambles. I guess that may not be an excuse, but it certainly isn't an acknowledgment that he has done a shockingly poor job.

and this is why joe c should be fired (if he does this)
why would you think the best option is to fire moser....have the boosters pay $2.5mil+/year for his buyout...hire a new coach....THEN increase the nil budget?
makes no sense. donors will pay $7-$8 mil for nothing over the next 3 years....when they could have paid an extra $million last year to buy better players that maybe would have solved mosers problem THIS season.
may not have changed anything but it seems like it would have been worth attempting.

How do you get Wi-Fi way up there on your high horse? Any thoughts on the actual basketball program or are you just here to condescend to fans who are disgusted with how things are going?

He isn't the biggest problem, though. So the options of coaches to come in and take his place will be horrid.
That’s not true at all. As I’ve explained elsewhere we’ve been able to attract a series of great coaches even with our limitations. And I can’t imagine many worse options than Moser.

yeah! we only allow condescending posts to posters that are optimistic! How dare you attack anyone that is negative all the time!

capel was close.
without the players kelvin left behind...and blake....he would have been just as bad as moser imo

I try to talk about the team and the coach, not police the board. But I realize that’s not your policy at all.

I’m talking about our options today. Capel was definitely a bad hire but hindsight is 20/20.

Steverocks: While you are right we have historically been able to attract good coaches notwithstanding some of the issues we have, that will not be true now or in the future. Now and in the future, all "good" coaches will condition taking a power 4 coaching job on a firm commitment regarding NIL. This is being talked about all over college basketball. Frannie just discussed this on TV related to the Utah job. Calapari conditioned taking the Arkansas job on $12 million per year in NIL during the term of his contract. A power 4 job without adequate NIL is career suicide. Our historical "issues", such as a bad gym, bad fan support, we're a football school etc, are virtually irrelevant now. You are living in the past. College sports are now pro sports and you can throw out any and all ideas related to success and comparisons to past performances. Coaching still matters, but only where you have the money to buy sufficient talent. For the right amount of money, kids will play at the YMCA.

Frankly, where your coach is operating at a disadvantage in NIL support, I'm not sure how an athletic director can really assess a coaches performance. It would be tough as all coaches win more and their teams look better coached when they have better players. You could blame a coaches recruiting ability in the past, but now, I'm not sure how you evaluate that issue, since he/she may just be losing kids being paid more money.

By watching their teams play. Do they play hard? Execute the fundamentals? Have a coherent system and plan? Execute late in games? Play smart basketball? Does the coach design good BLOB plays and ATO plays? Do the players seem to understand fundamental time and score issues, such as, if we are up 6 with 20 seconds left, we should have all five guys defending the three and not worrying about the drive? Does the coach have rationale substitution patterns? Does he identify and play his best players, or does he continue starting a guy like Sam Godwin no matter how poorly he plays?
