NCAA Coaching changes

I actually really like Boynton. I think he's a really good, genuine guy.

But good grief, that's a big commitment to a guy who just had the best player in basketball and only got him because he hired his brother to be on staff.

I'm still not convinced on how good of a coach he actually is.

With all respect, Boynton was on Cunningham since Cade was a freshman. They developed a relationship early. Cade was a heavey lean but Boynton wanted to nail it down for good, so he hired his brother.

Save this BS for the homers on gopokes. Cade wouldn’t have sniffed Stillwater without the extra benefit.

It's really a 2M/yr contract, and he's using the other 1M to pay for the top player in the country. Can't see any other justification for that move. If you're going to commit 20M to somebody, go get somebody that can actually coach. Yikes.

He was going to KU but the NCAA made them pull their offer after Snoop Dogg.

Corey Evans seems to disagree.

Article says Cade only didn't commit to Kentucky in October of 2019 because his family convinced him to hold off. Said "he was as close as you could get to committing" to Kentucky. That doesn't sound like a heavy lean.

And when Cunningham committed to OSU, he literally said "blood is always thicker than water."

What you're saying really doesn't add up. It's ok to admit that you wouldn't have gotten him if it wasn't for hiring his brother. It's the truth. And there's nothing wrong about it. It's not against the rules to do that.

It's not like OU fans sit here and say OU would've gotten Trae Young even if he didn't live in Norman. We all know that's not true, so we don't pretend that it is.

Eddie! Post a little more. It's been a while!

Ivey is actually younger and significantly less experienced than Quannas White to be a college head coach.

But hey, I hope he gets an opportunity. I am sure he's a talented guy who can get it done.

We need more of these types of hires in sports. Players need a better path into coaching... Ivey played basketball for 11 years while lots of other guys (who couldn't play usually) started coaching during that time... Then when the player wants to coach, he basically has to cut off another 10 years to get the experience the other guy had. We've seen some good progress on that, and more programs need to be willing to do it.

I get your point, but not all players can coach and not all coaches played....just sayin.

Early relationship yes and Boynton seems to be a great guy. He also knew it was highly unlikely he coming to Stillwater so he hired his brother. Very smart move.
Seems like a great guy and gets his players to play hard. I still think he needs to do better with the actual playing. Defense is superb. Offense is essentially go fast and see what happens. If nothing there see if someone is better than their defender one on one.

It's feast or famine with them as they seem to turn the ball over at a high rate.

@RecSpecsRyan on twitter seems to think Carlin Hartman is going to UNLV as an assistant...

Solid hire for Kevin Kruger if true.

Just don't want him as the head guy at OU. :)

I think it’s a good hire, too. I’m curious why you would be so opposed to Hartman yet think we should hire a different assistant who has even less experience?

Because experience is one small piece of the pie when evaluating something like this?

Because Hartman just contributed to what I consider a pretty "blah" last several years of OU basketball. It makes zero sense to hire anybody that has been recently associated with OU basketball if the goal is to get better and/or drum up "excitement" for the program.

Hartman’s biggest contribution might be the two guards in next year’s class, Bijan Cortes and CJ Noland. I would not want to see them go to another school!

I definitely agree about Noland, but that isn't a good reason to keep him around.
