Need More Talent

Sounds easy enough

Lol, right?!? I don't think people understand how few bigs there are who come with all the tools. Some have skill but lack athleticism (Krutwig and Tanner come to mind). Others are dynamic athletes but lack skill (we have had plenty of those on our roster). The guys who have both tend to end up at a handful of schools for a year or two, then head to the NBA. Most colleges end up having to develop guys. If Krutwig is any indication, I think Moser will be able to do that. As for Tanner, he has been better than some are suggesting, despite his obvious limitations, and I think he will be much improved next season with a year of Big 12 experience under his belt.

Agreed. We pretty much traded Manek for Tanner, Tanner is better.

I work at Northern Oklahoma College Tonkawa and we have a 6-10 freshman post player that OSU placed here. Bob Huggins came to see him on Tuesday. This kid is from Finland, he has upside but he is far from a finished product (averages 10 points, 10 rebounds per game). The point is that skilled post players are so hard to find that schools are looking at this kid. I don't know if Huggins offered or not but there seems to be interest. You would never watch this kid and think he is a Power 5 level player. That's how hard good bigs are to find.

Thanks for your post. I chuckle at some of our posters complaining about project bigs that didn’t meet their expectations. Blake who was home grown is one of the few “Big 12” high caliber bigs we have obtained. Spangler was another. Maybe we will be surprised. Big bangers ready to play that do not come with baggage are few and far between.

Better than Manek? Wow!

I think so. Manek has more ability & potential, but I'd take Tanner based on toughness. Manek stayed pretty much the same player, I'll be interested to see the jump Tanner makes after seeing what the Big12 is like.

I think Manek has a slight edge on offense, but toughness is not one of his strengths. I have seen him play twice on television, and he’s still the same player on defense. He struggles to defend a bigger, stronger player, but he’s too slow to stay with a smaller, quicker opponent.

Tanner may have faults. But you can always count on him to play hard. That’s one thing I could never say about Brady.

Agreed. Exactly what you said is why I'd take Tanner.

The player that I spoke of at NOC Tonkawa verbally committed to West Virginia on Saturday.
