Sorry guys I know I'm new but I watch and keep up with ou bball as much as anybody. I think we came into this season with expectations a little too high....we need to start facing the facts that we just aren't that good. Top 25? Sure...top 15? Doubtful...top 10? Just stop. Our best wins to date are over Texas butler UCLA and tulsa...will these get us into the tourney? Of course! But we also have losses to creighton WVU(good team) wisconscin(good team) washingtin(borderline tourney team) kstate(god awful). These aren't losses that a top 10 would have....maybe 2 of those 5 and MAYBE 3 but not 5...those are losses of a team that gets a 6-9 seed...our wins are to teams that Lost to Osu and UCLA who literally everyone has taken a turn on. And butler who is flailing...it's time to see this team for what it is and start being excited for a chance to make a run in the tourney. They will not win big 12...they will not get a top 4 seed and they will not make it to te final 4...they will score some upsets and they will have a chance to catch a break in the tourney as long as they play solid D and PASS THE DANG BALL.

Be careful. I just posted a very similar thread and got called a poke troll. Tread lightly, my friend... Us realists are in the minority.

Are you saying our basketball team has become our football team?

The title of your thread needs to be, Need to start facing the facts and my opinion. You seemed to have mingled the two.

This team is just like many other 'good' teams. When they are 'on' and the matchup is good, they can be great. Only truly great teams can consistently win when they aren't 'on' or they get a bad matchup. I'm not sure any realistic people thought this would be a 'great' team.

Like I said I think they can make a run but there are too many weaknesses on this team...zero bench depth. No real facilitator. And most of our players can't create their own shot...Cousins does sometimes but not for most of the game. Woodard is really struggling to not only run the offense effectively but to get the ball in to people in positions to score. It's a hard job to when people won't move. Defensive gameplay against OU is Guard perimeter. Double Tashawn when he gets the ball down low. And help off Woodard ALL the time. We have zero penetrators except (not including Woodard cause the kid can't hit the broad side of a barn and looks for the foul and braces for the foul every time he drives). I love this team and love watching them play but I have officially tempered my expectations back down to "let's make the tourney with a reasonable seed." It makes it a lot easier to not be let down. Haha

As good as the big 12 is, I don't think its a given we make the tourney

Our guard play just needs to get better. They just haven't been good enough in Big 12 play outside of the first 2 games. Woodard went from a special looking PG as a freshman to just not seeing the court well and really being someone that quite frankly shouldn't play at this level right now. And when your point guard play is bad things sorta fall apart around that. We really miss Hornbeak right now.

He is second in the conference with assists and sixth in assist to turn over ratio. He absolutely belongs in this conference. Certainly he can play better but it is unfair to the kid to say he doesn't belong.

Anytime Woodard has a subpar game, we'll see a bunch of those clown posts saying he doesn't belong in a league like the Big 12. If that kind of rhetoric wasn't so sad it would be downright funny.

Jordan Woodard didn't play very well against WVU. But tell me, how many of his teammates DID? Woodard is one of the top three or four point guards in the league. I, for one, am glad he's a Sooner.

Normally I would agree with this kind of post, but his shooting percentages have to be some of the worst in the country. This opens him up to ridicule.

There's no denying that Jordan is in the throes of a horrendous shooting slump. Hopefully, he will snap out of it soon.

You state that he is caught in a horrendous shooting slump. You also state that hopefully he will snap out of it, which is not a given. And you also state that he is one of the top 3 to 4 point guards in the league. Your words.

When a person who is playing well is ridiculed then that is something to take note of but until that time occurs it is neither sad nor funny.

I think OU is a top 25 club, I don't believe for a minute they can win it all. Sweet 16 would be a darn good season for this club.

Well on the bright side Duke is 2-2 in the ACC and just got destroyed at home by a KSU transfer.

Anyway relax guys, let's see how things lay at the end of February.

Even with some of our good wins the offense hasn't run like a well tuned engine. This is something that can change through the season and normally does with multiple peaks and valleys, so let's not jump ship after every loss. Although there are things the team lacks there is still plenty of talent to have a very good season.

This, look at Connecticut last year. Got embarrassed by L'ville right before the tourney and win it all. Now I'm not predicting Nat'l Championship, but you can't look at some mid-January games to determine your play come tournament time. This team will make the tournament at a decent seed and depending on how they're playing at that particular time will have a better forecast on how they will perform.

Not much here I disagree with, Jackson. This team does indeed have more weaknesses than I imagined when the season started with TaShawn eligible.

Having said that, though, I doubt if you or anyone else would have made this post after our wins over Baylor and UT. There were a number of reasons to be optimistic about this team's future back then, just as there are reasons for concern now. It's clear this team has to play better than their last two games, but it's way too early to throw in the towel. I think a return to the effort we saw in those games is not only possible, I truly believe it will happen. If that means my expectations are too high, so be it. I have been wrong before.
