New Coach

Now I’m getting my hopes up lol.

I would be stunned if Joe made a move during the season. I honestly can’t remember the last time that happened at a power conference school, unless it involved an off-court issue. But I’d hope it happens 12-24 hours after we get bounced from the conference tournament. And Joe better already be doing his work behind the scenes to find out who might be legitimate candidates.
Ohio State did it last year. Once they fired Chris Holtmann, they went on a mini-run at the end of the year and ended up hiring the assistant.

Joe C. isn't going to want to do that. He'll want to start over.

Just caught part of Curry Hicks Sage's Twitter Space tonight. Not sure how long he'll keep the recording up. At about 1:10:00 of the Space, he's asked about OU. He says his source has told him that OU has the money lined up to buy out Porter. He mentioned he had been told the same thing that showed up on Trilly's Discord: that if OU got drilled by Florida, a firing might be imminent. He didn't want to report it because it sounded farfetched.

Curry likes Ross Hodge (North Texas) a lot, and thinks he'd be a good fit at OU. He also mentioned the idea of a high-end NBA assistant (similar to what BYU did), but didn't give any names.

He's throwing stuff against the wall to see if it sticks, but he's knowledgeable about coaching searches.
who?

Curry Hicks Sage is a handle for a Twitter/X account based in New Jersey. Lifelong UMass fan. He's made a lot of contacts in the last few years and has become an authority on coaching searches. I think he gets a lot of the same info as Trilly Donovan. He's a college basketball sicko that'll tell you more about some jobs and situations than you'll ever want to know. His Spaces calls are interesting.

When our job opens, his line will be: "Norman, Oklahoma, welcome to #SearchSZN".

Not sure how plugged in this guy is considering he said on the pod that we had a new facility we're about to move in to, but I do think he hears scuttlebutt. He loves him some Hodge, which I would endorse. The guy is straight from the McCasland mold. Has UNT at 19-6 and 10-3 in conference a year after a nice NIT run with a beat up roster. Makes me think he's the kind of coach that has a chip on his shoulder and would embrace the "do more with less" mantra that seems to be the sum of our program right now. With all the openings about to come on board it would be smart for Joe C. to jump the shark on a guy like Hodge.

Sad that even Chris holtmann is a better coach than pm..

Joe c would definitely hire an assistant from within. He's an idiot and loves stuff like that. He forced BV to promote littrell.. but we need new blood and not an "ou"guy. Just plainly the best candidate

Man. Ross hodge would be a huge gamble. Idk if i could do it on 2 year's worth of resume.. i think we could get better options. Taking everything out of the OU job except for the fact that it is a 3-4ish million a year job, i think you can get a lot better options with better resumes elsewhere (will wade)

Also I looked at North Texas's roster and remembered that CJ Noland was there. Turns out he transferred to New Mexico for his last run and is getting LESS minutes then UNT and is no longer a starter there (it looks like he was a starter at UNT or part-time starter) lol. "Congrats, You played yourself."

Went everywhere and nowhere at the same time.

There won't be a new coach. Moser will likely get a raise out of this. Joe C admires clean programs, and Moser runs the cleanest, and Joe no longer cares about winning, because he is as secure as any employee in the world.

They got drilled, and nothing.

I am way more plugged in with basketball but I can promise you the JJF/SL promotion was 100% Brent's recommendation.

I have no insiders in either program but judging by Brent's history of wanting to hire/promote OU guys and/or people he has worked with, I have always seen it this way. I know different people have different sources and I don't mean to imply that anyone on the board is making stuff up, but Seth absolutely seems like a Brent guy through and through.

That's not what I heard from my friend's money guy. I've heard that BV has been pissed about some of the things he was promised before taking the job that have not come to fruition and that Joe C made him hire SL to keep "continuity"

I suppose that could be BV's agent getting that out there to cover for BV's failings. He supposedly has the best coach agent in the industry, which is why I was told his agent obtained the ridiculous gratuitous extension

His agent Jimmy Sexton is the best in the business for maximizing contracts. [see tweet below]. He handles most of the big name coaches in CFB & CBB (Sark, Mike Norvell, Kalen DeBoer, Kiffin just to name a few) .

The first part about promises may very well be true, but the idea Joe C made him hire SL/JJF is a cover your ass statement (if that’s what’s being passed around). A reason why I would add Joe C’s lack of oversight in hires to the list of criticisms for him as of late.

He told joe c with a straight face that other schools were looking at poaching bv lolol. I'll help pack his stuff! But joe c gave in.. rough.

Moser is among the coaches discussed in an Athletic column that was just released naming guys on the hot seat.

Also, just saw a quote from Los today about how his desire to compete for a conference (and national) title was a big reason he left and went to Houston.
That’s code words for he wanted to play for a better coach.

Been extremely busy and haven't had a chance to do much research on things but I have been watching all of the games. I appreciate the list of potential coaches and the Kellan discourse. Regarding the list of names, seems like another list of mid major coaches like where PM came from. Are there any quality options from P5 teams? Interested in the potential NBA assistants that would be on the list.
