new stadium in place of the field house?

85,000 people find a place to park six or seven Saturday's in the fall to go to a stadium right next door. You're telling me 10-12 thousand couldn't park without issue for 15 or 16 home games? You have to be kidding.

Now let's think about this. All football games are on Saturdays, which means the lots on campus are not being used by faculty or students. Also, a lot of people park on the streets or in the frat house or regular house lawns. In bad weather, this wouldn't be an option and I don't see frats/sororities opening their lots on school nights for basketball games. So, this takes away most of the parking used on gamedays except the ones that require a bit of a walk, like the duck pond. Is walking from the duck pond to McCasland further than walking from extreme points of the parking lot of the LNC to the LNC?

Not to mention, if the frat or regular house lawns were opened as well as church parking lots, elementary schools, etc., then they are going to charge people to park.

Isn't the LNC still free parking? It was until 5 years ago, but maybe that's changed.

In the end, parking is an issue, no matter how you slice it.

First off, let's get the information right on this argument... who cares how far either venue is from where students live? How far are they from campus corner? That's the main issue... How soon can I be drinking beer before and/or after the games? The LNC requires a long walk to the car, time stuck in traffic, then finding somewhere to park on campus corner...

If the fieldhouse site were used, the students would park near campus corner (like they do almost every day already) hit up the drinking spots... walk to the game, then be able to walk straight back to the drinking spots... can't do that from LNC.

And while some of you may try to say the proximity of the arena to drinking SHOULDN'T be the main concern.... save it.... whether it SHOULD or SHOULDN'T be the main concern is moot... because I can promise you that to the students, it IS the main consideration.

If there were 10 bars across the street from the LNC, we'd be discussing how to move Owen Field... it's just the reality of it all.

End of discussion

i like where your head is at

Let's suppose that we did have a new arena on campus and the parking issue had been solved. Is the fact that the practice facility is at LNC an issue? From what I understand, some practices are held in the practice facility and others on the regular court.

Doesn't seem to bother every NBA team... they all have a practice facility where the team hangs out, practices, and works out... Then the arena is for gameday...

I don't see any reason why it would be an issue... in fact, it's more representative of what happens on the next level... a place all these guys want to be anyay.

way back when we never understood the whole lnc deal. they built it way(back then it was really way) to the south where there was nothing there. they built it, imo, with concerts and truck pulls in mind as much as bball and wrestling. the fans are so far away from the court and then they give the closest seats to the donors and not the students. i dont know if expanding the fieldhouse like they can now was feasable back then but wouldnt it be an option now? whatever they do please make it a fan friendly, right on top of the court place.

I've always thought that if a new arena were built it would be south of the practice facilities. But with the new student housing center going in on the SE corner of Jenkins & Lindsay to replace BW house, I wonder if the thought is toeventually tear down Wash & Jeff house & put a new BB arena on the NE corner of that intersection.

I've thought about that too. I think it would have to be pretty compact but I'm sure its possible for a smaller venue

a better option might be to build the arena where the two grass practice fields are SW of the stadium and put the new grass practice fields where the wilkenson dorms are now.

I doubt this would ever happen. The main reason is because they have that fence with the tall shrubs to keep people from climbing the fence and from viewing practice. All the practice fields, except the indoor facility, are side by side and situated perfectly. And, again, football is the cash cow.

So if you guys were Joe C. What would be your top things to bring in a steady crowd. Obviously a new arena would be most of your choices, but what about other things?

uhhh...

1. A well respected established coach that you KNOW will be around and will not embarass the program with NCAA infractions. CHECK

2. With a well respected low risk long term coach in place, this makes donations for a new field house a MUCH easier sell. CHECK

3. A new student friendly field house on campus. 'insert check here when completed'
