new stadium in place of the field house?

No way do they build one there. If they put up a new one it will be on the South side of the practice facilities. Why would you waste facilities that most other universities come to look at when planning their own?

Also, this crap about if it is ON CAMPUS the students will come - that's the Goofiest thing I have ever heard. The Lloyd Noble IS on campus and if the students won't drive ONE MINUTE - YES ONE MINUTE to the Lloyd Noble then they aren't going to walk 5 minutes to a closer site.

If Kruger wins the butts will fill the seats for all of the Big-12 games and most of the others like it was under Tubbs and Sampson - Just win baby!!

If a remodeled McCasland Field House happened, they are not going to tear down LNC. It could be possible to schedule games at each venue. A 9,000 seat basketball arena on campus could serve a lot of functions: volleyball, wrestling, women's basketball and various campus speakers as well as hosting men's basketball for most games. Selected games with larger attendance could go back to LNC. Or if season ticket sales really takes off, we could go back to LNC for good. In the meantime, LNC could be remodeled to make the seating capacity larger and more like a basketball arena.

Purple

You are fairly cranky these days aren't you!

My butt was in the seats for most of those games and the bad games before Big-12 or Big-8 would draw7 to 8,000 (about 3,000 more that GOOD Big-12 games drew the last two years under Capel) ; the real good games would be over flow like UNLV / Georgia Tech / Etc. The Conference games back then would always have 10,000 +. Question it if you may and rewrite history but I was there so you can't change my mind.

Bottom line is there is no way they put a stadium in the middle of campus - doesn't make any sense at all and Boren and Joe C do things that make sense.

I was in those seats for many years.

We need the people and atmosphere BEFORE the team to help with home court and recruiting.

OU had 9k or so season ticket holders this year .. .in most of the last 14 years we have had 12k or more season tickets holders ... we do NOT need a smaller arena

yes we do. sometimes less if better.

With the practice facilities at Lloyd Noble with all the parking it won't happen. The University is cramped for space as it is around there and I just don't see it. Oregon's Arena was 140 million. Enlarging the stadium and pressbox is needed too.

Disagree about enlarging the stadium. Tickets ate pretty easy to come by as it is. I would rather see a full stadium than one with empty seats like Texas.

10000 is plenty big for a basketball arena at OU.
Build a new one and build lots of suites so the cooperations will get those instead of all the better seats and never put anyone in them.

Go look at what Virginia built. That is a beautiful gym.

I got excited when I watched the video after work today. Joe did give the impression of a new facility. I love it! We need a new facility. I keep hearing people say we have awesome bball facilities. To me, it's just a couple of concrete walls, practice courts, and banners hanging. I've been inside Legacy Court and I like it but I'm pretty sure all of those things can be moved to the new location. I would love to see them tear down the Fieldhouse and build a new facility on campus. Wrestling, Volleyball, Men's Gymanastics, Women's Gymanastics can still use the LNC.

The LNC is too spread out. It is good for concerts but makes you feel really far away from the court for games. That also affects acoustics and how loud it sounds. Don't get me wrong, I have heard LNC rocking plenty of times. OU needs to either build a new arena or somehow gut the old one, eliminate some seats, and position the rows at a higher angle so you feel closer to the floor.

After the remodel to GIA, you really feel like you are on top of the court in the upper level. It is straight up.

And GIA is so great that OSU has about 3K empty seats for all home games even bedlam.

The venue has nothing to do with the size of the crowd. If that were the case then nobody would have attended the big 8 baseball tourney at all-sports stadium. That was the biggest dump known to man, yet OU had a college world series attendance record in the regional final vs Auburn. And the big 8 tourney was always well attended.

If some of you want a new arena, put your money where your mouth is and call Joe C and pony up some cash for a new one. If each of you gave a million, he would probably break ground next week.

I am just gonna agree with everyone else about your relative "keenness" compared to the other knives in the drawer.

oh, and if you think for one second that GIA isn't a much better environment for basketball than you're just a loon.

your negative vote has been registered.

Show me where I said GIA isn't a much better environment for basketball? I merely pointed out it hasn't helped OSU fill up the arena, and they have been to the postseason each of the last 2 years.

And, I'm not against building a new arena or remodeling McCasland. I just don't think it's going to solve the attendance problem and as fiscally responsible as Joe is, I doubt he is even entertaining the idea.

Cool -- no reason to get personal. It's just a discussion. A lot of people have been ragging you lately, but I haven't. I know you have posted on the various message boards and been a fan a long time. Like you, I go back to the ouhomer days, but under a different name. I am also one of the few OU fans who values the basketball program at least equally as football if not more. At the very least those of us who have been around a long time should at least have a mutual respect for the others like us because its not easy being an OU basketball fan.

I guess i'm in the minority on this...but i don't think we are getting an "on-campus" arena. it would be great...don't get me wrong, i would love a new facility....either in the middle of campus or re-doing the LNC on south campus.

my first impression was what we are all talking, but as i continued to listen to Joe, he basically was saying that the basketball program starts with the heart of campus...the STUDENTS....

IMO, he was calling out the students, and stating that the pricing and marketing programs will be geared towards the students. I'm imagining that all students get in for free or they will change their ticket policy for students. have another star wars night, and give out free pizza and sodas.

they have dumped a ton of money into LNC already...the practice facility is already there....they have a weight room...and they have parking.....and joe has stated over and over again that the next two projects are fully endowing all athletic scholarships and getting a new press box.....and unless blake griffin is donating 10% of his contract....it's not happening.

GIA is a horrible place to watch a basketball game if you are not in the first 20 rows ..

I have only been to one game at GIA, it was the OU game in 1989 but I didn't have a problem with the stadium. We sat in the very top of the old part. The seats were fine. I did find the steepness of the pitch to be strange at first, almost like you could fall out of the stadium but I like the environment and was impressed by how loud the stadium was. It was a great game but unfortunately OSU won a close one.

technically its on campus. but its really not. Fact is the casual fan isnt going to deal with the hassle of driving and parking to watch ou bball. I Just feel like there will be more of a chance that they will decide to go if it is within walking distance from campus corner. Get out of glass, go down some beers and walk to the game. More students, guarenteed. Especially if they are basically courtside. Buzzed kids would also give a more rowdy student section.

also, does the football team have three outdoor practice fields plus the everette center? Couldn't they build a gym in one of those spots and use the football training facilities as well?
