new stadium in place of the field house?

Stop complaining about parking. They'd probably just do a shuttle from the "old" LNC to right in front of Price. Just like they do for football games. It'd be OK people.

I didn't get a new arena out of his talk. That's just your wishful thinking manifesting itself. And yes parking is a problem. No one is going to walk 7 blocks at night in freezing temperatures. It's one thing when you're going to a football game and know you're going to be outside. It's another to hike to a basketball game in bad weather. Sorry, but those donor seats are not filled with college students. Those folks aren't going to pay to park on top of the cost of donor seats and tickets. And I don't believe the students will come just because it's on campus. LNC is not hard to get too. Kids don't walk anywhere anyways. They all have cars and use them.

you wouldn't have to walk anywhere close to 7 blocks

Two things that have to happen to increase basketball attendance-first, less television. Sorry but it's too easy for folks living in OKC and Edmond to say, nah, let's just watch the game on TV instead. Second- remove the tie in between donor seats in football and basketball. Currently there are people who donate for basketball tickets with no intention of using them, because it helps them get better football seats, especially texas tickets. I am sure all of my fellow season ticket holders have the same experience, seeing seats that are empty game after game(not talking about this year btw) but even during the good years. The in game experience could be made much better by more time out entertainment- bring back Top Dawg and have him take lessons from Rumble the Bison, let the upper level fans come down to the lower level and find a seat if one is empty- heaven forbid you should arrive at the game and find some squatter in your seat and have to ask the "ruffian" to please move. Those of you who have been to a thunder game, there is never a dull moment- parachute drops, the Balon Blaster, free pizza, etc etc etc.

Someone needs to organize a ticket donation drive. Have a pool of families that want tickets, but can't afford them. Next contact all the no-show donors and ask them to donate their unused tickets to the pool. Make a huge deal out of giving them away. Donor still gets "credit" for the seat and someone that wants to go to the game will actually be in the seat.

One of the things I liked about what I've heard from Kruger is that he seems pretty hands on and treats his program like it's a business. And if you look at most of this post that's really the problem with OU. If you look at the Thunder they are successful because they treat it like a business and want to make sure the fans come back every game. It's not just the product on the court. The first year the Thunder were here they stunk, yet they had full crowds just about every game. Kruger was talking about running this program like it's a business as well as a team. That's really important.

I didn't get that either.

They mentioned having the press conference at McCasland because Lon had played there before.

At the end Joe referenced trying to get bigger crowds to the Lloyd Noble Center.

I really like this idea, but it makes too much sense to do something about it. A donor donating his basketball tickets to people who might actually want to go to the game? Absurd!

You two would be the only ones not seeing the reference made there. Carey Murdoch and others are talking about how Joe insinuated and stop right short of saying that's what they were going do. We asked Carey to follow up on it. Hope he does so.

I would be surprised if they do this. I don't think it would make much difference for attendance but that's just me.

More students live on the south end of campus than those on the north end.

All the greek houses on south greek, the apartment complexes on hwy 9, and apartment complexes on chautauqau are closer to LNC than to the field house.

However, if they did it, I would attend games just the same as I do now at LNC.

that's because you're under the delusion that viewing the game is all that matters.

How about moving exhibition games to McCasland? I don't know if it coincides with volleyball/gym/wrestling season, but I'm just putting the idea out there.

No, I'm under the delusion that the product on the floor is directly correlated to the poor fan support.

I've been to the LNC, as have you, when it was sold out and rockin. I can also remember we had the longest home court winning streak in the nation.

Our problems have nothing to do with facilities. Period.

and you're still missing the point. we need the arena and it's atmosphere to be a boost when we're NOT that great or exciting. That's what Kruger was saying today and everyone agreed. It also helps with recruiting.

we hafta stop this chicken/egg argument and recognize we need all pistons going to help get this program to the top.

Aren't they getting rid of the swim complex just north of Timberdale? What about putting it there or where OCCE is now?

I don't think the amount is the problem. The problem with LNC is placement makes it hard to market to. If you have the same facility in the middle of campus it would be perfect.

With the practice facilities at Lloyd Noble with all the parking it won't happen. The University is cramped for space as it is around there and I just don't see it. Oregon's Arena was 140 million. Enlarging the stadium and pressbox is needed too.

The answer is simple and solves two problems- dome Gaylord Family Memorial- you think all those pour souls who broil in the sun every september wouldn't pony up for that. Bump up the seating to 100K. Then in the winter you roll out some floor seats and put a basketball court in the center- you could theoretically hold the ncaa finals, it's big enough. C'mon Joe C, think outside the box.
