If it takes 2 million per year to get Buzz Williams or whoever our next coach might be.....Would everyone be on board is would that be too much???

Who on that list do you think would come to OU for $2 million?

I don't think that 2 million is too much. With the shape that the program is currently in and how much we were paying capel, I think 2 mil. for the right coach is reasonable. If the university doesn't think that basketball is worth that price tag, even more fans will cease to support the sport. I am just as big of a fan of basketball as I am football, but if we go for a cheap fix I am done. I will not spend my time/money to go to games.

OU can afford to pay $2 million, but I agree that it's too much unless OU can land a big time guy with a proven track record. If it's going to cost $2 million to get Buzz, I would rather spend $1 million to go after Brad Stevens.

No one in particular, but if we're going to set the mark at $2mill, I'd like Joe C to at least call more proven guys that are getting a lot less than that monetary mark...i.e. Dixon, Beilein. That list is 2 years old though. Buzz is making $1.5 or so now and others have gotten plusher extensions as well.

$1 million won't get you Brad Stevens.

Why would he leave Butler for more or less equal pay to what he gets now? And why would the hottest young coach do that to coach at Oklahoma? No offense intended, but you don't think he has other options in better shape?

I was surprised to see Dixon so low. I know he was Mizzou's #1 choice when we hired Anderson, but he ended up simply using us (and Arizona State, I believe) as leverage to get a raise. Looks like he didn't get much of one...

The problem with most "proven" guys is their schools aren't going to want to let them go without a fight. Unless you can substantially outbid their current employers, you probably won't get them, especially if they don't have ties to your school and/or region (as Buzz does with Oklahoma).

OU can afford to pay the going rate for any of the best available candidates.

And should.

If OU wants a quality person and a good coach like Buzz Williams, we'll have to pay up to get him. If that number approaches the $2 million mark, so be it. But since he has strong ties to this region and is really a Texas/Oklahoma boy at heart, I believe a nice raise over what he's making now, with incentives that would take him to $2 mil or beyond in the next year or two, just might be enough to bring him back "home." He can't possibly enjoy freezing his arse off in Wisconsin. Brrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

Buzz hates neo-conservatives so if he doesn't come here then you know who to add to the blame list.
