Next Season: The Starting 5

Let’s take the focus off this horrible season and think about the future!

If I had to bet today, I’d bet this is the starting 5 at season’s beginning and conference start:

5: Bloom. Her height alone makes her a starter.

4: Williams. She could move to 3 if Gregory is the real deal.

3: Gregory: technically a 4. Needed to take the heat off Williams.

2: Llusana: Best, most complete player on team.

1. Murcer: best option. As sophomore with Bloom and Gregory, she’ll be able to shine.

TV: First off bench.
TR: Fill in for Gregory and Williams and for offensive spark.

There is not a recruiting site that has any extensive information on OU. Sherri plays it very close to the vest, and we never learn unless the prospect makes a post,, usually on twitter.

Gregory is going to play the three. A least that is Sherri told her. She is 5'11 and too smart to play the 4 or 5. Best part of her game is passing and shooting the three. Go watch the film of her game against Williams last year in high school and tell me which one is the better athlete and player.

I still think Gregory at the three. She can open up the lane and basket for Bloom and Williams by pulling her defender from under the basket — ala Manning.

Technically, I believe IF Sherri were to retire or be fired (it isn’t going to happen), then Bloom, et al, in the signing class could back out of their LOIs and resign with another program.

Is that not right?

Sherri has to find a way to play Madi at the 3, if not her talent is going to wast... I would start Bloom and Dee inside, Madi at the 3, and Taylor and Shay if she stays in the backcourt... Ana had a great game today, but she still isn't very consistent, Scott is 6'2 Bloom and Dee both 6'3, and Mandy 6foot should be our post rotation next year... depending on how Liz comes back from her injury could depend on her starting next year...

Williams wants a pro career, if Sherri can't put her in a position to get there, I can't see her staying at OU long term.

Players do not get better at OU so I have yet to see anyone in years who was or did make it in the W. As far as overseas, none have made in years with good teams and made good money overseas. I am confused. I did not think a LOI was binding. I guess if someone is on campus on a scholarship but can't play until next year, the rule would be different. Again though, does just signing a LOI bind a player?

My bad. Used to be more familiar with the rules. LOI is a contract but like all contracts there are conditions which allow them to be revoked, rescinded, invalidated. Not sure regarding a change in coach, without researching it does seem to be something that has been allowed, not maybe based on law but just agreement between all parties involved. .player, conference, Ncaa, school to which player want to g o.

Technically I know you are correct on Gregory and Scott. However Bloom is attending classes this spring semester and is already on scholarship for the 2018-2019 class. She is listed on the official roster and possibly ineligible to transfer without sitting out a year. Beats me. But if so I am certain she could appeal.

We just assuming Pellington is leaving? She's probably got the most ceiling if she could slow down...with Scott and Gregory coming in there could be less pressure on. Her to carry this team and she might be better for it. BUT she's not even playing and games that she's eligible so if I were her I would probably want to leave. Such a thing shame. SC always finds a way to screw things up. I wonder if she were to leave if Pellington would actually stay?

Ana has improved quite a bit over last year. The defense (excluding S Pellington) has improved over the course of this year. Maddie Simpson has improved over last year. Passing and turnovers have not improved.

Simpson is still far from good. She's a great D-II or NAIA player, but not a good D-I player. she moves as if she were six foot four, at least. For her size and the league she is in, she is seriously lacking athleticism. But these are the type of players SC loves recruiting and loves playing. They have the right 'look.'

I won't ever criticize Maddy. She gives everything she has. She battles opponents that are bigger than her, taller than her, plays hard ALL the time, knows her assignment, and knows the whole teams assignment. Yes it would be nice if she had EJs athletic ability or Courtneys hands and shooting ability. But the coaching staff failed to recruit and keep a decent center for this years team, so Maddy gives us 100% of her ability, and we should applaud her hard work. Team faults are not of her doing.

Agreed. She’s giving it everything she’s got. She plays as smart as she can too in a position that is not her normal spot.

Think of her and Blume together. We would own the boards against most teams, especially with Williams at the three.

There is a Mandy Simpson and a Madi Williams.

I assume you are talking about the former, and I agree with you that she seems like a great person and in the right scenario would be much better off. It is really unfair to ask her to play the middle like we have been doing, but our lack of recruiting a couple of true center types caused this. It is certainly not Mandy's fault.

After the last game, I wondered if she had gotten lax in conditioning, but since then it has been clarified that she had been sick all week. That is almost certainly the explanation. So I owe her an apology. In the past I have always said she tries very hard - perhaps as hard as anyone on the team.
