Next year: Great talent, but different

listening to sports here in KC, that was one thing one of the guys was saying. Last nights crowd at OU was pathetic. #1 team..or close to it, playing your rival and it was dead.

well by all means, take a local kansas city sports commentator from KCs word over the people covering the game or those there :facepalm

I don't know about how good we will be b/c of all the teams in the big 12, OU will have the biggest question marks on its roster. I also think from top to bottom, the big 12 will be the toughest its ever been. If Woodard goes on slumps like he's on now, we will have some major issues next season.

Be interesting to see who does NOT play next year, rather b/c of a redshirt, or just not cracking the rotation. No chance we go 12 deep on the rotation, more likely 8-9, with 10 being the most I would think. That leaves, currently, 2 scholarship players getting no time.

I would guess that we play 11 guys in most early games next year and then move closer to a 10 man rotation ...

if monte morris leaves ISU will be a complete rebuild ... much bigger issues than OU ...

texas if taylor leaves loses 6 rotation guys and 4 starters .. they are in a rebuild

You are talking about 2 guys that are 2nd round draft picks. Always a chance but the odds are that they come back. But if they don't, you are correct.

this has never been the case

That's not entirely true. You get 1 sooner club point per ticket for buying tickets to multiple sports. But that's not enough to justify buying them for the points. IF you want to accumulate points for football faster is it better to take the cost of basketball tickets and just give it to the sooner club than too buy basketball tickets

Here's my way too early prediction of how it will all break down.

PG: Woodard/ Strong
SG: James / McGusty/ Grandstaff
SF: Odomes/ Grandstaff/ Doolittle
PF: Freeman/ Buford/ Doolittle/McNease
C: Lattin/Manyang/ McNease

This is a saltier team than some people are anticipating. This team will lose some games it should win early on, but by tournament time this team will have jelled and will be a very dangerous team.

This team wins 21 to 24 games IMO

No way Freeman starts above Buford and Grandstaff actually got some minutes this season unlike Odomes. I think he starts. I do think Odomes is productive off the bench next year though.

I think Strong will get a lot of PT in non-conference, but when Grandstaff is eligible I see his minutes deteriorating. That leaves a 10 man rotation with Freeman & Mcnease's minutes fluctuating based on match ups (also Manyang to a degree). McGusty will be a backup PG this year and depending on who we sign might make the move to starting pg when Woodard graduates. I believe Doolittle redshirts.

Those of you already writing off McNease, he's a RS Freshman who is still very inexperienced in the post because of his late growth spurt. He's one of our most athletic players and he's 6'10 with from what I've heard a great work ethic.

Count me in the group that says it's too early to write off McNeace. I think he looked as good vs Texas as Manyang has at any time this season. Fran also mentioned Kruger really likes McNeace and thinks he will be an important piece. He just needs playing time.

That block he had which was called goaltending, he was really high on hte backboard. He can get up.

I also think Freeman and Buford will play a lot at the 3/4/5 next year depending on situations. That gives them the ability to go big which we don't have this season.

Last, Lon's best teams were 3 guard lineups (everywhere he's been). Next year we will be a 3 guard lineup most of the time.

I think both Morris and Taylor leave bc of what each team is losing. All 3 teams, including us, take a step back next season but we have more pieces in place to not fall off as much as the other 2.

KU is going to be strong. They lose old man Ellis and Traylor. About the only question for them is whether Selden stays.

West Virginia also has a chance to be really good. They lose Paige and Holton, but little else.

this is exactly correct ...

Iowa State returns a lot to. Morris, Thomas, Long, Burton and Babb. Its not like they ever go deep anyways.

Texas returns a bunch and have a pretty good recruiting class. Texas will be good with or without Taylor. With Taylor they will be even better though.

Do they return Long? He played in 8 games. Can he still get a medical? I have read ISU fans saying he will. I am not an expert on the rules but that is a lot of games.

I actually think those guys are looking at returning only Thomas, Burton and Babb. That is not very much experience.

Freeman isnt starting. Austin will start at some point, then I think buford and lattin start together along with odomes and woodard.

Im hoping Odomes over James because I think he is a better scorer. Maybe Im wrong.

Id redshirt Doolittle. ( I know its unlikely) Odomes couldve/shouldve RS this year.

I could see this. All the pieces fit. I also agree on Doolittle. Talented kid but, unless he can come and beat out some of these guys at the 3 or 4, it will be a struggle to get him minutes next season. A redshirt would do him and the program wonders.
