Hear are a couple things I've heard recently.

Nick Thompson has asked for his release to transfer and it should be announced soon.

Kyle Hardrick's status is still unknown, he is currently done for the semester as far as being on the team, so it looks doubtful if he will back.

That seems to confirm what most figured would happen...so we have 2 more schollies to fill...

on an earlier thread i think someone thought the coming ncaa sanction would be 1 scholarship for one season. and that by cutting nick loose and not replacing him would get that problem out of the way next season without much pain.

After Arent, we will still have 2 more ships to give...maybe we can pick up one more and save the final one for next year...

Maybe now we offer Gabe Olaseni...

Can anyone think of another team that had their captain transfer?

Oh, well. Thanks for the memories, Nick.

I hope Nick does well wherever he ends up...that being said, I hope we are able to get a good young player that can give us some quality time in the paint next year...

We need a shooting guard that can make some of them.bad.

This is why I asked the question about whether or not we need another undersized post. I look at our roster right now and see a need for a scoring guard. We don't seem to be recruiting one of those, at least not for 2011.

*Disclaimer* - I don't follow recruiting all that closely and could easily be wrong.

I sort of look at the OU basketball team the same way as I do the St. Louis Rams. THEY NEED EVERYTHING!!!!!!Except qb of course :ez-laugh: :D

Pretty crazy about Hardrick. Guy hits the lottery with an OU basketball scholarship that he really didn't deserve, and instead of making the most of the opportunity just wastes it. Makes you really respect walk-ons like Beau Gerber and T.J. Franklin and Barry Honore.

Agreed. While it'll be nice to be stocked inside, guards win basketball games, especially in college. And we don't have any great guards right now. Cam has a chance to be great, but I'm not as sold on that being an automatic as some folks are. I'm anxious to see how Pledger improves under the new staff. But I don't see Blair, Grooms, Newell, or Neal as anything better than average at best.

The staff may be waiting until 2012, and that is fine, but I hope they are trying to find a guard that can straight fill it up at some point. Think about all the very good OU basketball teams of the recent past. Do we have a single guard that is as good as Hollis? Brewer? Erdmann? I say definitely not. And I'm not sure we have one that is as good as Nolan Johnson or TE. That is the next step for LK and the staff, to upgrade us at the guard spots.

Hopefully Clark, Pledger and Newell can (and will) do that...

If Clark plays the SG spot for any length of time, we aren't going to be very good, IMO.

I guess the question would then be who is available at this point? I think at this point the team has several needs, and maybe the biggest one is just adding talent...if you can't fill specific position needs, then add talent...it looks like 2012 and 2013 could be good years for OU recruiting at a number of positions...

ASSUMING we pick up Arent and Glade, here's how our roster looks like (not including walkons):

Blair JR G
Clark SO G/F
Fitzgerald JR F
Neal SO F
Newell SO G
Osby JR F
Pledger JR G
Washington SR F
Arent JR C
Glade FR F
M'Baye JR F
Grooms JR G

That would be 1 SR, 7 JR, 3 SO and 1 FR
That would be 5 G, 6 F and 1 C

Best case would be a FR shooting guard or a FR center...

Well, for Cam to be on the court as much possible, he may have to play the 2 on occasion...but my comment was more that Cam should help provide some outside shooting...not as much as the others mentioned, but he will play on the perimeter some...

We won't miss Thompson or Kyle.

Make room for players who want to work and have guts and desire.

M'Baye would have to sit/redshirt a year so I would count him as a soph

I'm confused. I was under the impression that kruger came to OU BECAUSE of captain hot sauce?

Joe C: ok kruger, our team captain is a dude named Nick mother freakin Thompson...

Kruge: I'LL TAKE THE JOB!!

All jokes aside, hope he does really well where ever he goes. he was highly entertaining this season. hope he finds his game somewhere. I will miss you hot sauce!

I'm honestly surprised he's transferring. I know things didn't work out like he probably had planned, but I figured he'd stick around for his senior season. Oh well. I wish him well wherever he ends up transferring.
