NIT OU vs St Bonaventure 7pm CST on ESPNU

Fairly fitting end in that the season comes to a close with us unable to hit a shot at the very end to win/extend the game. The OSU game at home was really the only SUPER close game that went our way all year. Those situations are hard when you only have one guy you can count on to make a shot and he really can’t create said shot for himself.

Good thing about losing in NIT is it doesn’t sting all that much. Would have liked to see the guys keep playing, but also feeling some relief the season is over. I enjoyed following the team, but it was a grind. They were very flawed and each game was a battle to try and overcome those flaws. They played some good basketball down the stretch and had our best showing in KC in over a decade.

Now the business of college basketball commences.

All in all, a perfectly fitting end to the season. Zero execution late, crucial turnovers, and the antithesis of clutch play. Often, luck plays a huge role in a team’s record in close games. In our case, we earned every one of our close losses.

We need actual bigs that can defend and athletic wings. We have some good players but are just not very athletic.

We are the least athletic team in the big 12. We may be the least athletic team out of everyone we played this year.

Felt like we could get a shot at the rim instead of a runner. They had to guard the 3. But that was our season in a nutshell, another game where we played better when we got behind and not so good when we got a 2 bucket lead. We have the close loss down pat.

Microcosm of our season....play just good enough to lose at the end. Maybe next year will even out the closes losses this year, but a talent upgrade at certain positions is an absolute must.

I’m sick of the excuses. We lack talent and it’s obvious. We MUST recruit better players and we need to cut the dead weight.

Don’t need to cut the dead weight as much as we need to ADD to the roster so that players like Tanner can fit into roles for which they are better suited.

Goldwire looked checked out of this game midway thru…he wasn’t given maximum effort. Tanner doesn’t move his feet well to play good defense. Only 6 FT…Moser should’ve had them driving to the glass….but when we did, we missed what 7 easy layups. We are in trouble again next year if Tanner has to start at the 5. We need to bring in a big who gives maximum effort on defense…Chargois is going to be missed if we have to rely on Tanner for big minutes.

We have to get better players. This team had the lowest basketball IQ I’ve ever seen.

Preseason all the expert posters on this board loved our talent. Most said it was better than last season. Won’t miss Harmon, Williams and Manek. Heck Groves was better than Manek and it wasn’t even close! Lmao 🤣

Totally agree....OU was so poor in late game situations all year. At this time of the year, you are what you are.

I wonder how it went in practice when they put the clock to 2:00 with the score tied. Did both teams lose? Surely neither team managed to win.

He didn't want to be in the NIT from the get go. He was for sure checked out. Sad but it is what it is. He wasn't nearly as aggressive as he was vs Baylor and the other teams down the stretch. His TO's were down big time at the end of the year. He still was better than Cortes. Cortes has got a long, ass, way to go before he's anything low ceiling, low floor. Backup PG material at best.

This result worries more than it should.. porter needed to do better than this in the nit IMO...

Johnson was actually athletic and showed some potential this year but in reality we should have even better than him. Maybe our recruits will fill that need. If we return all the key guys be it Mo, Groves, Hill. We need wings that are athletic and a center. I think Groves can be a decent 4 even at a high level in the Big 12 but he's not a very good center.

Our most athletic players all left be it AR, Harmon, Williams. We didn't replace them with high level athletes. I don't know why some of our fans had higher expectations than what we had here.

Since we're not paying for players. We'll see what Moser can conjure up. He's got his work cutout for him.

I’m very excited about the 3 guys we have coming in next year, but they’re going to be freshman and you can’t really count on freshman until they prove it. I think they’ll be great players in time but probably not next season.

We need a point guard badly. We need a center badly. We have a few good pieces but we need a lot more if we want to compete in the Big12. The groves bros just aren’t up to big12 or OU standards. They have a good game once in a while but are non factors way too many times. We need to upgrade the talent in a major way. If mo Gibson doesn’t return, we are really going to be hurting.

Which explains the nit tournament.. but whats the reason we cant beat the dang bonnies at home? Just disappointing. Porter better process a few and then use up every scholly in portal and/or HS (or if desperate - juco. Easy ABD)

Today's age is transfer portal over JUCO. But we need to upgrade athletically desperately. We need to cut the fat from the roster too. Guys like Mason, Bijan, Maiwan, Issanza, did nothing all year may see a couple of those guys not on scholarship. I guess Mason and Cortes were freshmen but they need to be a lot better next year. Noland was a freshman too and showed potential at the end of the year. We should be able to see athletic players even if they are freshmen play a lot for this team next year because we really don't have a lot of athletic players on this roster.

Not to beat a dead horse…. But obviously depth for the Bonnie’s didn’t matter. Their 5 starters play 87% of the minutes and score 90% of the points…
