Non-conference schedule released

While I don't wish it was much tougher, I do wish we had more than one true road game.

Also, our OOC schedule isn't going to do us any favors, most likely, if we're a bubble team.

I'd rather play a difficult schedule to see how good OU is. OU probably won't make the ncaa tourney this year, but strength of schedule is factor if you are a bubble team.

After the way our schedule has been the past two seasons I'd rather come out of non-conference without already having 5 or 6 losses. But that's just me.

We also need to remember just how tough of a league this is going to be now. It is going to be brutal. We need to take that into account when we consider what we want our non-conf schedule to look like.

That is a double edged sword though. You schedule easy, sure, you win more OOC games, and can possibly afford more conference losses.

But it also drives down your SOS, and it doesn't prepare you (in some cases) for the more difficult conference games. I'd just prefer to get Arent, Grooms, and Osby more than one true road game under their belts before conference play.

I'll be rooting hard for OU in at least one game.

I don't necessarily think this schedule is "easy". Who knows what Arkansas will be like but Houston is a solid club and @ Cincy will obviously be tough. In the "76 Classic" we could face any of the following: Boston College, New Mexico, Santa Clara, Villanova, Washington State. It's not like we scheduled 12 Coppin States.

It's worth noting that we all play two more conference games this year. I'd expect most Big 12 teams to have a slightly weaker OOC than normal.

You're adding an extra game against kansas, kansas state, Iowa State and Missouri to your schedule this year and losing one against Nebraska and Colorado. That's a pretty significant upgrade to sos.

Exactly.

I like the schedule.

At some point soon, LK is going to be able to put together a non-conference schedule with more "name schools' but for this year, I think it's the right move.

These kids need some confidence, they have been beat down pretty good the past two years.

A decent showing in the Big 12-2 will get OU to the post season in 2012 and then an NCAA berth in 2013.

These are my feelings exactly. However, we need to make sure we don't become like Texas is with their OOC in football, in the long run.

Hate giving the devil his due, but the 'horns are stepping up their football OOC's pretty nicely (off the top of my head, their upcoming includes BYU 3 times, Notre Dame 4 times, USC home/home). Hopefully, our hoops slate will eventually move more in that direction. As for OU hoops, I think this is the right move for where the program is at right now.

Rice, BYU, UCLA.

I would love to see the argument that supports those three teams creating a tough non-conference schedule for football. UCLA lost 8 games last year. BYU lost 6 games. Rice lost 8 games last year and the wins were very unimpressive. Simply because UCLA beat Texas last year does not make that a tough game for anyone other than Texas.

OU plays Tulas, FSU and Ball State. Tulsa won 10 games last year and two of its losses were close games. FSU had a solid season last year and is a preseason Top 10 team. Ball State was brutal last year just like Rice.

I just don't see that UT has a strong schedule. I guess I need to learn to think like Barry Tramel so that I can understand this myth.
