The difference between the traditional blue blood programs and everyone else is mostly that they have the tall athletic skilled big kids. Interior post offensive play is what gives you consistency on offense and back side rim protection against dribble penetration. it is sort of like football, where the biggest difference between the traditional powers and the lesser programs is the talent on the line of scrimmage. Their big kids are better. Lots of issue come into play, but IMO the real difference most of the time is the tall kids.

Good guard play and perimeter oriented offensive teams can do well and sometimes get hot, but offensive post play is more likely too show up night after night and be more consistent.

Lon talked all off season about needing to develop offensive diversity, e.g. get away from being a strictly jump shooting team. We have, at times, shown some decent post offensive game, but we still lapse into a jump shooting team most often.

For me, the key to our tournament chances hinge mostly on whether we can get the kids to run our offense through the post when we aren't in transition mode.

That's what kills me about texas. Turner and Ridley have a combined 4 points. Throw the big guys the ball!

I think Barnes has done a horrid job coaching this particular group of his players.

Maybe the most talented team in the Big 12 but nah we'll forget running a single play the last 5 minutes of the game and just let Taylor go 1 on 1 every time down.

I don't think UT is as talented as some of you think. Their bigs are big, not overly skilled. And their guards are some of the worst under Barnes in his time at Texas. They probably should be a little better than they are/were, but they don't have the skilled players to be much better. IMO, of course.

And yes, I was one that predicted them to be 2/3 in the conference this year. I just didn't know how average their guard play was at the time. Maybe Barnes gets docked for not developing these guys, b/c they certainly didn't get better over the summer.
