The difference between the traditional blue blood programs and everyone else is mostly that they have the tall athletic skilled big kids. Interior post offensive play is what gives you consistency on offense and back side rim protection against dribble penetration. it is sort of like football, where the biggest difference between the traditional powers and the lesser programs is the talent on the line of scrimmage. Their big kids are better. Lots of issue come into play, but IMO the real difference most of the time is the tall kids.
Good guard play and perimeter oriented offensive teams can do well and sometimes get hot, but offensive post play is more likely too show up night after night and be more consistent.
Lon talked all off season about needing to develop offensive diversity, e.g. get away from being a strictly jump shooting team. We have, at times, shown some decent post offensive game, but we still lapse into a jump shooting team most often.
For me, the key to our tournament chances hinge mostly on whether we can get the kids to run our offense through the post when we aren't in transition mode.
