Long time member here mostly a lurker. Appreciate the honest insight about OU Hoops I get here just don’t post a lot.
Anyway, do you think it would be bad form for Coach to contact the league about the way teams are going to defend Trae? With the way the Aggies tried to bully him around I see more teams trying this. ( even though it didn’t work they may see it as the lesser of two evils.) We have seen the the B12 refs let WV maul people and not call fouls. I can see Trae being bloodied and bruised after this one. Would it just piss off the refs or make them keep a closer eye on it since it’s coming from the top.
Sorry for the long question, just something I was thinking about.

I share your fears about how WVU will play Trae.

If they would call it straight up Trae might shoot 20 FT’s which would be fine. Thing is historically refs let WVU play mug ball. Guess they are afraid if they call all the fouls WVU would foul out every player.

Lon has the respect of officials. All he needs to do is bring it up pregame in a respectful manner

I anticipate a tough physical game.

In addition to talking to the refs before the game, I'm sure Lon will tell his players to be ready for a physical game. Our players need to be ready for the fouls and to get aggressive on defense too.

Our bigs need to box out and keep their bigs from getting to close to the basket. If that means pushing and shoving them from the goal before they receive the ball, then that's what they need to do. This is what I think is the most worrisome. Rebounding.

Trae is a big draw, it's good for the league to get a bunch of eyeballs from all across the nation. I expect a little protection by the refs would happen naturally without any arm twisting. Now imagine what Trae would average if they protected him like the NBA protected Jordan.
