###Oklahoma [16-6, 6-4 ] vs. West Virginia [17-6, 6-4] Game Thread###

This one is on Lon. You have the best PG in the country so sure let's let everyone else carry the ball up the court completely taking away those long passes Trey always seems to pick out for easy lay ins.

Maybe coach Lon needs to learn a few cusswords and raise his voice more because this team is too timid for the Big-12.

Not his style. Having said that, he needs a coach like Henson who is that bad cop to his good cop. Even though the players loved Henson too he is more in your face and ain’t afraid to cuss.

I’m really thinking I may check out. I hate to miss watching potentially POY but I don’t think he’ll win that either. This team is a train wreck and I’m happier not watching them regress. I don’t believe they are not talented and I hope someone will call me if they come back to life. I’ll watch the scores.

"Just going by the play-by-play, Oklahoma missed 18 layups and dunks tonight.

Related: Trae Young only had 1 assist tonight."

Saw this tweet just now. 18 missed shots at the rim. Our "bigs" were terrified of Konate.

Even though the chances are slim, I hope Trae comes back just so this group of players can reach their potential - think another off-season can do this group wonders in terms of improving chemistry on the offensive end.

We can all hope. But if he doesn't come back, we will have to fight to be around .500 next season. Outside of Trae, the sum of the parts doesn't appear to be there. We can always hope it comes back together, but we are getting worse as the season progresses.

I think Lon did a really good job at the beginning of the season in the design of his offense around Trae. However, as teams have adjusted, it has become painfully clear that we don't have the player talent needed to be a "top half of the conference" type of team moving forward into next season. Unless we have a guy or two with a "Buddy Hield" overachieving type of work ethic, then this apparent deficiency needs to be addressed in recruiting.

Whatever it is they need some very tough love. Maybe they need to mix up the starting lineup some just to see what happens. I would put:
Young
Lattin
McNeace
Odomes
Manek or James then bring the other off the bench.

I actually agreed with this strategy. Trae had the flu bug, no need to tire him out even more. And it's not the reason we lost. Being softer than a roll of Charmin is the reason we lost. On defense and finishing around the rim, as other posters have noted

I thought any blow to the head was a flagrant. Or is that the nba?

The refs can determine if it was a flagrant or not. At first I thought he did it on purpose but when they showed the replay it looked like it was unintentional but I have seen them call it flagrant before. I guess it is a judgement call.

I’m sorry but the next big man Lon develops will be his first .

I agree Latin isn’t the answer but he literally hasnt improved since he’s been on campus .

What has happened to mcgusty? He looked like he had so much potential last year. He’s a non factor this year.

Coaches seem to either be missing on these guys or not coaching them up

Yes he has. However, McNeace has really upped his game this year. He has gotten more comfortable around the basket. Tonight wasn't one of his best games but he still did pretty good. I wish he could bulk up some more so he can pound a little more. I like what he has done this year.

Probably a little of both. Overall talent on this team could sure use an upgrade (outside of Trae) and the regression of key players in their sophomore year is an absolute mystery (Doo, McGusty, and James last year).

I hafta wonder if it doesn't have something to do with turning the reins completely over to Trae. Maybe we needed to suffer a couple more early losses with them taking more of the load. Doolittle has an out since he missed a semester, but the others do not.

I guess it was because Young is sick

James’ bug

If Trae continues the level of play the next 7 games that he has had Trae has the last 6 games I find it very doubtful that he wins either the Wooten or the Naismith. The Big 12 has figured out how to defend a one dimensional offense and turn him into a turnover machine and he continues to force the issue.

The Sooners are 2-5 the last 7 games and I would not be surprised to see them close at 2-5 or 3-4. I think we finish 9-9 in the conference. And it will be confirmed that Trae is not a lottery pick.

From my perspective OU has some athletes that have some skills and play basketball. They don't have any basketball players with a basketball IQ and know how to play the game. They spend to much of their time playing brain dead.

Well, we've finally found something to agree on, because I will guarantee that Trae won't win the "Wooten." But if you don't think he will be a lottery pick, and if you don't think he is a smart player who knows how to play the game (from your other post), then you are not watching the same games most people see. He is as smart a college point guard as you'll find. He turns it over quite a bit because he has the ball in his hands 95% of the game, but he makes the right decision the vast majority of the time. It is so sad that people on this board have now joined the trend of picking apart Trae for every mistake he makes. It's fine to be realistic and not be blindly optimistic, but it feels like plenty of people on here are almost rooting for him to struggle -- it's almost like every time he misses a shot or turns it over, some people are just looking to pounce and use it as a reason he shouldn't turn pro. I guess if that's how you want to enjoy the one, historic season we will get to see from Trae, have at it!

Lol trae will sweep the awards. It's already over.. some people..
