Last 6 seconds of the game. Free throws?

Bell.....slow learner.

:facepalm

Yep. I guess you can afford to miss free throws all day if the other team can't get a rebound. I was pulling for Oregon. Very unfortunate they didn't even get an opportunity to get a shot off at the end.

Basic basketball. Box out on the free throws. The opponent is up one; they can't afford a foul on over the back. So they ain't pushing the matter.

Now sometimes it's more difficult.....but I really don't know what Bell was thinking. He has to make an effort. But on both misses, he ends up under the goal.

And I've seen coaches send their defenders down the court so they wouldn't be called for over the back. What were they thinking?:o

Read this article on the net...

What a load of hogwash.....the player knew he let his team down. I don't know why the writer tried to downplay his play in the last 6 seconds.

The first rebound was just a brilliant play by unc to spike the ball back to his teammates. The second one should have been rebounded by bell but Meeks wanted it more. Even if they do get the rebound they still have to make a buzzer beating shot. I agree with the article mostly. Bell is one of the main reasons they were in this game to begin with, especially without Boucher.

I just disagree......

The first missed rebound. Bell looked more like he was going to get the ball out of the net...like he assumed Meeks was going to make the ft. Very little effort to rebound the ball. And as I said earlier, NC wasn't going to risk fouling Oregon when they were only up 1.

In Bell's place, I was taught to locate the opponent, keep him away from the goal, your teammates will come and get the balls that fall nearer the basket or step forward and get the ball. Do not let the offensive guy get to the goal. Some misses will bounce out to the offensive rebounder....that's just part of the game. Letting the offensive guys get under the bucket is not good basketball.

Same can be said for the second rebound near Bell a few seconds later.

I know it sounds easy, right? I realize it isn't that easy, but I think Oregon and specifically Bell really broke down in the last seconds. Good game. Sad ending.

JMO.

Yep, he looked like he took both rebounds off. His job is to get his butt into his man and prevent him from rebounding the ball. Instead, he kinda casually reached up to grab it himself and the UNC player did a good job taking advantage of his laziness both times.

Bell is a sensational player who made a couple of mistakes. He's going to be a very good NBA player as well. He should not feel as though he let his team down because they wouldn't have been there without him.

It's unfortunate for him but I'm sort of glad it happened because people here used to crucify Lattin for a similar mistake, to the point where people would talk about how overrated he is and how he shouldn't start because he didn't box out on a particular play. These are young kids and they make mistakes. Even great players like Bell make these sorts of mistakes. It might be just as simple as he's thinking about making the outlet or inbounds pass instead of the box out and and all of a sudden Meeks has the ball.

On another note, it's interesting how different the narrative is because of the outcome. UNC missed 4 free throws in a row in the last 6 seconds, I think. If Oregon ends up winning, the narrative is that the Heels choked. Instead, it's how Bell didn't do his job. They're young. Stuff happens.

my rebounding (box-out) drill...ball had to hit the floor before you could go after it...

yeah, Bell is a very good player, but boxing out is the most basic...and TWICE at that.:facepalm

Bell was tremendous after Boucher got hurt, he stepped up his game big time in the NCAA Tournament.

Hated to see him falter in the end, I'll give him credit, he owned it. That impressed me.

They would not have beat Kansas had it not been for him.
