Osu and Cade’s brother part ways

I wonder if it surprised him and Cade?

He wasn't pushed out the door or fired. He left, because he's going to manage his Cade's pro career. He'll earn a lot more money doing that than being an assistant coach in the college ranks.

Hopefully, he's qualified to do that.

Wrong. It was understood he was to leave after cade was gone.

he earned 300k this year.

The bag was delivered in broad daylight in this one. Just like Danny Manning’s trucker dad turned ku assistant.

lol it was the agreement when cade signed ..

Who did they fire to make room for his brother?

Wow. I mean I don't know that guy but what a slap in the face. What a dirty game.

I like Fran but he and a few of his ESPN buddies made it a point to elaborate on the fact that everything was above board and the OSU coach built a relationship with Cunningham from a very young age, and everything was wholesome. Except that none of that mattered unless they hired his brother...

For some of you older guys, did OU do this with Tisdale, except it was his HS coach? I think i've heard something like that. If so, how long did he coach at OU after Tisdale left? Just curious...

Mike Mims was at OU for several years. I don't know if Billy let someone else go so there would be room for Mims.

From that story looks like he was an assistant for 12 years. This stuff happens. You hire a coach, you give a scholarship to their sibling or best friend who doesn’t really deserve it. Even coaches who don’t pay players deal in the gray area of recruiting.

I’m sure if Lon would have hired him 2 years ago to get Cade no one would have complained.

Hiring him isn't the problem. Firing someone else to be able to hire him is the problem.

Tubbs hired Mims after his first season in Norman, IIRC. I believe he hired Mike Newell as his first assistant coach and had Mike Anderson as a part time asst coach. Then he hired Mims after 1 season which coincided with William Tisdale's graduation from BTW. Everyone knew William wasn't the better of the 2 though he was a member of the big 5 or whatever the first team all-state team is known (with Wayman, Steve Hale, Mark Price, and Bill Self, I think). OU signed William to get Wayman and I guess you could say they hired Mims for that reason but he stayed on. Newell was named interim coach after Tubbs was hit by a car while jogging during Wayman's freshman season (during the NCAA tourney). Then he left after that season for a HC job and I think Anderson was promoted to full time asst coach. Mims and Anderson stayed with Tubbs the remainder of his career in Norman.

Tubbs was smart enough to know Wayman was going wherever his older brother went. Mims was a quality coach, but I'm about 95% certain he ended up at OU to make it even more probable WWT would land in Norman....

This isn’t even a possibility. Lon was the cleanest coach in the country. He would never do that. The most questionable thing he did was hire his son as the 3rd assistant. His son was worlds more qualified for the job than cades bro though.

I can promise you there would be complaints if an ou coach did this to get a 1 and done kid, though.

Agree with that but it wasn't as shady as the Cunningham deal at OSU, and maybe not as shady as KU hiring Manning's dad, who was a truck driver.

In fairness to Brown, he played on the same team in the ABA as that truck driver. The two weren’t strangers. Since Manning was out of basketball, it was a shady hire to obviously get to his son, but Brown did take Manning to the NBA with him to be an assistant there as well. Now that everyone knows more than just half the story, it should be clear that KU and Manning was less shady than OSU and Cunningham.
