OU and NU played 4 OT's in 1996. 3 in Norman and 1 in Lincoln. Both Sooner wins.

Erick Strickland was the "other good player" I was thinking in a post above. Thanks to Sooner04 for mentioning Jaron Boone.

Tyronn Lue was the Bugeater point guard.

Husker team lost 10 of 11 straight games to end the year and then won the NIT. talk about a weird year for them.

OU loses to Temple in the NCAA. I remember seeing the second half of that game in a bar in Boulder, Colorado.....and we were down 8 but might as well been down 100. That Kelvin team was never gonna score enough to beat that Don Cheney team.

That 1996 team was a disappointing after how much they overachieved the prior year. Thanks for bringing to light a couple of the few good memories from that year (beating Kansas at home was other). Kelvin was a great coach, but that was probably his worst coaching year until his last season. Ryan Minor took a step back after an amazing junior year, but what we learned the most is how important it was for Kelvin to have an above-average point guard in his system. He inherited John Ontjes the year prior, but he ran out of eligibility and wasn't effectively replaced.

I was also at a bar watching that Temple game. John Cheney was a heckuva coach, and we just couldn't score. To your point, being down 8 was practically insurmountable. What I remember the most about that game was when Hootie Wiley fouled out and his stats were posted on the screen - 0 points, 0 rebounds. Shortly thereafter, Bobby Joe Evans fouled out and his stats were posted - 0 points, 0 rebounds. By that point, everyone in the bar watching were just laughing while I was doing a face palm. It took awhile for Kelvin to develop into a good NCAA tournament head coach, and now of course, he's a Hall-of-Famer.
