Some guys are reporting Steve Davis died in a plane crash in South Bend, Indiana. 4 died and his death is not officially reported by the news outlets, but it sounds pretty dim.

Hale's confirmed it. The plane crashed in a residential area, and hit some homes.

A damn shame -- I met Steve two or three times (just as a fan -- I didn't know him), and he was a fine guy.

Does seem to be true. Feel very badly for his family as well as the Sooner family. You couldn't find a better person to represent your school.

I was just reading about that crash but they did not name names and only mentioned 2 dead of 4 onboard but there might have been updates since then. The article said it originated from Tulsa and was owned by DigiCut Systems (Wes Caves owner).

I ran into him at the Baylor football game this year. He doesn't know me, but when he walked by my sister and I, I said "that was Steve Davis". My sister and him were in school at OU at the same time and she said "yes it was". I thought I should ask him to take a picture with me, it decided I would have other chances.

My dad told me a great story about Steve. At the 1976 ( after the 75 season) Orange Bowl, Steve was asked to say the prayer on the PA before the national anthem. He had just started his prayer when it was announced Tennessee had beaten whoever was number 1. The crowd erupted because this meant the winner of the OU/Michigan game would be the national champ. Steve was quiet until the crowd died down and then he said "Let's do that again..." and started over on the prayer.

He was a great guy and he will be missed. I used to love watching him host the Barry Switzer Show.

Horrible news. Prayers to the families involved. Steve Davis was a great person and he will be sorely missed. RIP.
