As you guys have already read on the boards this morning there have been some reports/rumors that Marquise Carter, the 6-4 point guard from Three Rivers CC, may be reconsidering his commitment to Gonzaga and taking a trip to OU.

I sent a message to Carter this morning asking him about this, and here is the response I got.

"Yes, I'm probably going to take a visit...haven't decided yet."

I'm also trying to find out about Poland's interest in OU, but he hasn't been as responsive as Carter has. I will update this thread in the subject headline when I add new information.

That would be awesome. Thanks for the hard work!

Thanks OUH! At least this is something. Hopefully Coach Capel can still get these kids on campus and give us a shot at landing them.

I haven't been a big proponent of Joe C. or Capel making any official statements, but I think this is a case where a joint statement saying that Capel will be back next year with the full support of the athletic department would be a huge benefit to recruiting.

I disagree. I would prefer if the AD didn't make any statements because whatever he declares, could hurt the program. It could sound like Jeff may only have 1 year left to "right the ship", which would hamper any recruiting efforts.

I'd prefer for the AD to stay quiet, but Jeff is the one who needs to step up and start doing some interviews with local newspapers or TV stations. The longer he's silent the worse it gets for the program, IMO. If he makes a statement or responds to reporters it at least would provide a sense or normalcy.

it may make US feel better, as fans, but I am willing to bet Capel has talked to RECRUITS about all the speculation. Just the feeling I get...especially with Carter reexamining things and Ross planning on visiting OU. Just a thought.

just when you thought the sky has fallen. LETS GET THIS TOGETHER BOYS @#$#$

That's the important thing as far as I'm concerned. We will find out what's what soon enough. I just want recruiting to continue in high gear.

And a good thought it is, too. The only reason for a public statement is to satisfy the curiosity of fans like us, and to put an end to some of the speculative remarks from people who have no idea what Joe C is going to do. Setting the minds of recruits at ease is definitely a high priority.

The April signing period will determine if OU will be a contender or a pretender next season. I honestly believe the next few weeks could be the most important period in recruiting Sooners fans have seen in years.

The main thing is to keep working the recruits. I am sure that Joe C is behind Jeff all the way. I imagine that if a recruit or his parents need reassurance, Joe C would be happy to talk to them directly (if he is allowed). I believe that Joe C talked to the recruits when Kelvin left.

Public statements need to be carefully crafted. Naysayers will twist anything and use it in negative recruiting.

We only have a few weeks left to the signing period. Just hold on until then.

Thanks for the update. With the way things have been going, i'm not holding my breath. maybe we just need one commit to give us a little positive mo

That sounds like an excellent reason for a public statement.

And so teams can't negatively recruit vs us citing Capel is leaving, we're going to be on probation etc.
