OU Battles Baylor

If the Paris twins had gone to UCONN, Texas, Baylor, Tenn, Cal...just about any of the top 10 programs during their era, they would have at least two NC's.

Obviously cannot be proved but the probability was great that they would have won 2 maybe even more if they had gone to UConn, Tennessee or Baylor.

True, obviously cannot be proven along with probability of more; especially UCONN. However, based on what other teams accomplished (including Texas and Cal...proven coaches) during that era, it is likely that 2 NC's could have been won. I also base it on the things that the twins or anyone else did not get at OU that they would have received elsewhere: skill development, strategic game time coaching, recruitment of other elite student-athletes.

I've posted the quote from Coach Landers (Georgia) where he states that AParis should have been starting much sooner than her junior year. If he was bold enough to say it publicly, imagine what he and others were saying privately. I've personally heard some of those comments. Just a shame OU WBB was not willing to do what it takes to sustain and continue to develop a strong program after being "gifted" some really good players. I believe much of the success was because of the determination of the players, especially the 2010 team that returned to the FF.

I'm sure the powers that be hold on to SC for any number of reasons...maybe the donors of those endowments have some say. Who knows. But it's getting kinda' old. And highly unusual to see a program decrease to this level without changes to staff. Mulkey/Baylor owned them.

True.

The 2006 team did go undefeated in Big 12 play though. In a matter of a few seasons we've gone from that to only (most likely) just winning 2 big 12 games. Def time for a change!

Mulkey and her Recruiting Asst. Coach were at DeSoto's (Dallas area) playoff game Friday to watch 4 players. Sarah Andrews ranked # 6 in 2020, DeSoto has three Freshman, two are Post players, one 6'4" the other 6'3", and a 5'5" Guard, all will be national ranked players to watch. They recruite hard, this is not the first time they have watched DeSoto play this season. No OU coaches to be seen.

Interesting comments after the game...

"We obviously couldn't do a thing with all that size," Oklahoma coach Sherri Coale said. "We couldn't get a rebound, we couldn't stop them from scoring in the paint. ... You roll the dice, and you've got to give them something. That's what we gave them, and she took advantage of it."

"The stuff they're learning is so great," Coale said. "If they can keep themselves together and keep themselves learning, which is our primary job, they're going to grow into really nice basketball players and we're going to have a lot of fun with them down the road."

How long has she known "all that size" was at baylor? Maybe recruiting and signing some size should have been a priority EVERY YEAR. "Primary job"? Grow...lot of fun down the road? Really? Sounds like the local Y team responses after they played a pick up game versus baylor.

This answers some of the OU WBB posters questions.

Agreed...IMO it's been an issue from day one. The AParis and CParis fell in their laps from one of their high school club teammates and SHansmeyer closed that deal. She's no longer there with SC, her high school coach...and she is a former UCONN player. She might have some idea about recruiting. A few followed the twins. The word around the gyms for years is that numerous top NATIONAL players wanted to attend (not lately of course) but were snubbed and never offered.

And now she has some stupid point system she’s implemented...no telling what the criteria is on that.

Do they get demerits for partying on a Friday night? Points off if they don’t go to church?

Lazy recruiting is just one sign of a coach getting older and burned our. I thought and still believe that SC would rather go to dinners and rub shoulders with the brass instead of doing what she is paid for. Of course you have to remember I been calling her out for a few years now. She is not a good coach, maybe a good person I dunno. I also believe that Sherri doesn't want anyone on her staff that she thinks knows more basketball than her...the hire of Colton?

The softball equivalent was Gasso signing Keilani Ricketts and Jessica Shults. Since that year, top recruits have wanted to come to OU and have been accepted. The juggernaut continues as they move into the future.

It's not rocket science, robotics, nuclear engineering or anything new. If you build a legacy and maintain it...they will come. Ask Geno (I guess he didn't share any recruiting tips with her). Heck, ask Mulkey. I've been calling it out for over 10 years. Unfortunately, there are too many coaches (men and women's programs) who settle for mediocrity. But it's a dat gum shame when one settles for below average.

Mediocrity? Is Sherri aiming that high any more? I thought her prime interest was producing saints and to Hell with basketball.
