OU up 8 at the half. Defense has been great forcing lots of turnovers. Better 3 shooting and this game would be in the book already.
12 seconds left and Coales put Nancy in the game and she came through with a nice layout up the buzzer.
Good effort in 1st half against another team that was in the tournament last season.

OU explodes for 28 points in the 3rd. 75% shooting in the quarter. Manning had 10 or 12 points in the quarter.

I missed the first half of the game. Is there any certain reason why Gioya isn't playing?

I don't know what to say about this game. We didn't exactly dominate at the post with Vivi and EJ like we have, each scoring three. Nancy got six to match them. Between the three, they had seven blocks and eleven boards. We did control the lane more on defense than offense.

Since Maddie wasn't hitting the three (zero for five), she helped us dominate the paint with her two-pointers, scoring sixteen to lead the team. The twelve that she had in the third quarter created the separation that permitted the reserves to survive the fourth. That's about all the reserves did---survive. They were sloppy in the fourth.

Chelsea had a nice start, scoring ten. Peyton scored four quick at the start of the game and settled into a quiet game with nine. The only other excitement in the game was Nancy's performance. She was pretty good: 2-3 from the field, 2-2 from the line, couple of blocks, couple of boards.

That's three straight NCAA tournament teams. I don't know that more than one or two would make it back this year. I was a bit surprised by CSU. They were better than I had anticipated.

I thought our offense was spotty, but defense (except with some 3rd string in forth quarter) was outstanding the whole game. Different defensive looks, pressure on the ball and the passing lanes, with all out hustle from all players has made opposing teams look bad. Colorado State was in the top five in least turnovers, and we just pressured them into mistake after mistake. You win a lot of games with good defense.
T'Ona started for Gabbi, but both had decent games and sorta normal minutes.
Still undefeated, and will find out more Thursday night in Lexington.

If Nancy continues to improve, perhaps adds some pounds, muscle to her frame, she will be a real force to reckoned with her jr and sr years. Even now she can block shots and further,r make players change their shots when they stop in front of her.
But she is a young lady not a she-male like Baylor's Grinier. Still can't figure how Grinier passed the chromosome test at the Olympics.

There is probably no doubt that Griner would pass a chromosome test. But, that doesn't necessarily define ontogeny. People develop differently with similar chromosomes due to other defining physiological reasons, like perhaps excessive production of specific hormones which might be normal or related to tumor. For some unknown reason, it appears that Griner had a lot of male hormones, which is not really out of the realm of possibility, having happened many times. It's just that not all are 6-8.

I think our best game so far. Pressure defense was good. Took them out of their offense for the most part. Still a bit of problem covering corner but that is part of the risk you take with a 1-3-1 trap.

Maddie a great third quarter. Little a good first half. Dungee very good. Wonder why she got so few second half minutes. She plays under control but did leave the corner wide open a couple of times.

Only one stretch where the offense got stale and we just passed it around and missed three pointers. Pretty brief though. Would like to see more breadth in the offense. Now we are just penetrating and kicking or ball screening. Virtually no movement or screening away from the ball.

Still too many bad decisions on passes and drives. Contributed to most of our turnovers which otherwise was held to a minimum. A pass at Mulkey's ankles is not going to get it.

Still inconsistent. Players hot one minute and disappearing the next. May be due to a much more equal opportunity offense than we see in the men's game or certainly what we saw with Sampson.

Good game though against a team that is better than they looked today.

I agree with a lot of this. Pretty impressed with defense this year. They are also switching up defenses a lot which helps keep opponent from getting comfortable.

I agree with inconsistency but I wonder if having a full roster of similarly capable players and frequent substitution is a negative? I know lots complained (I was concerned too) a few years back when the team would end up having 8-10 players healthy and everyone wondered why Sherri couldn't fill the roster. Well, now the last 2-3 years she's had a full roster (or almost full) and IMO the most talented roster from 1 to 15 probably that she's ever had. AND we're adding another shooter to the roster in a few weeks when Morgan hits the court. I'm sure when conference season begins the roster will be pared down some but they still have lots of options and I can see her using 9-10 players in a game versus the 7-8 she's relied on in the past. Just my thoughts.

I believe they only had 6 turnovers in 1st half and I'm sure most of the 11 in the 2nd half were in 4th quarter!

All in all, I think this team can be pretty good this year. I think they look better at this time of the season than they've looked in quite a few years with potential to be a lot better. Hopefully, they continue to improve!

I don't know what to say about this game. We didn't exactly dominate at the post with Vivi and EJ like we have, each scoring three.

CSU packed the paint; they were determined to not let Vivi beat us. Their strategy worked in one way – Vivi did not have a big scoring game. But the Sooners made them pay in so many other ways.

CSU is a good team and will win lots of games again this year. I'll be shocked if they don't make the tournament – and be seeded under 10.

It has seemed like this team has too many good players and not enough minutes for their talent, but yesterday's 4th quarter showed (to me) that they are starting to separate themselves. Huge dropoff after the 3rd quarter when we just played reserves.

What an ignorant statement. And people wonder why Griner might have
some anger issues when she has put up with this kind of hateful, ignorance since
WHATEVER age she was that she no longer fit into the box that some people want her in. SMH

And young lady is not appropriate description to use to describe the difference in how you were
trying to distinguish the two, it would be young woman. It's the 50's all over again.

My first real weigh-in of the season.

Cleary, Maddie has finally gotten the message. Shoot. Best game of her college career on Sunday. We need her to keep it up, or do more of it.

I like Edwards as the starting point. She's faster than Ortiz, quicker and her shot is coming on a bit. She can make something happen. I hope she continues to start. That's not a slam against Ortiz, either. I think Gabbi looked more settled/relaxed and was more effective off the bench She can bomb it from long range which Edwards can't, so it's a nice switch of strengths.

I really like the spark EJ is providing and I loved the way Dungee played Sunday.

Cant wait to see what Rich does in a few days.

Not happy with Peyton's play exactly. I think she's still struggling but has her moments. She is playing tough defense. I'd like to see her shoot a higher percentage.

Defensively, I think there is an effort to close down on players and the women are switching better than I've seen in a long time.

We didn't rebound well Sunday, but I think we have the ability to improve there. Vivi is a rock and Mulkey will come on.

I'm not enamored with the team shooting percentages this year. Seems like we are in a bit of a hangover from last year still. We have to get above 40 percent to really contend.

I don't see Penzo on the floor much this year except in mop-up. Same with Wyatt, except when we need a 3-pointer shooter.

Overall, I like were this team is. Trying hard. Playing smarter. So far a lot less dribbling. Turnovers, at this point, seem to be on the downside (I haven't checked the stats).

This may be the best squad since the twins.

I hope the days of underperforming are over.

Sherri's coaching and looking great too! That choker on Sunday....

I'll look at the performances of Maddie and Peyton a little differently with the advantages of statistics.

I preferred the game against South Dakota State that Maddie had. She only scored 15, as opposed to 16 against Colorado State. But, she was 6-12 from the field and 3-5 from three against SDS, and only 5-12 and 0-5 against CSU. So, she was more effective in scoring against SDS. She had nine boards against CSU and only three against SDS. But, she had 4 assists and 4 steals against SDS with zero turnovers, whereas she had only one assist and three turnovers vs CSU. So, she was a bit more efficient against SDS. I also thought she was more effective at keeping the offense going against SDS. She had some beautiful passes that set up EJ, Vivi, and Peyton. Of course, she didn't have anything as visible as 12 points in a quarter, especially at a time when it seemed that nobody could hit a shot.

What the two games did show was the versatility to score when necessary and to distribute when necessary.

I regarded the games of Peyton as being just the reverse. Peyton scored more against SDS (17 vs 9). But, against SDS, Peyton was only 5 of 15 from the field (albeit 4 of 9 from three). Against CSU, she had only 9, but was 3 of 6 from the field. Neither Peyton nor Maddie hit a three against CSU.

I would say that the most pleasant surprises have been the development of EJ and the immediate impact of Chelsea and Nancy, both of whom have demonstrated that they will be effective at OU.

Personally, I prefer to only say positive things about college kids. I agree with your first paragraph, and wish you had skipped the second.
