It's just not going to happen. One reason is there are not major Boosters wanting him out. Second reason is he has too many years left on his contract. Third reason is you're not going to be able to find a candidate better than Capel that OU can afford. OU would have to buy out Capel, buy out the next coach, and then offer the next coach a hefty contract. It's not going to happen.

Billy Gillispie may be the only candidate that would b affordable because he's no longer under contract. But do you want to bring a guy with substance issues and a track record of legal actions against his former University to OU?

Funny thing is that these people who want Capel fired would be the same people crying all next year when we go 5-21 because Fitgerald and Pledger left with Capel.

I seriously doubt these people calling for Capels heads have thought about the fact that instead of having two good years with all these guys returning, we will have to start all over if Capel gets fired this year. That means at least 1-2 more years with similar records as this year and last year.

The difference in a guy like Joe Castiglione and internet morons is that Joe has some patience and some foresight. Unlike these losers who are complaining but didnt go to the game, Joe was right there last night to see Capel coaching his heart out and making all the right moves giving a team that was overmatched a chance to win, had they just made a couple of open shots.

I'm not worried.

Leave with Capel huh? and where exactly is that? You think if OU lets him go he will have a gig by next year?

Lets see what kind of patience and foresight Joe has after OU averages 4,000 fans. Lets see what kind of patience and foresight Joe has when Capel can't recruit good players anymore. That's what happens when you dismantle a program and run 20 kids off in 5 years. Lets see what kind of patience Joe has when Capel owns 3 of the worst record years in the last 60. Lets see what kind of patience Joe has when the booster money for BB drys up. Lets see what kind of patience has when the BB team's TV money drys up. The network big's don't want a loser in the time slot and no one watches.

I am a OU grad and BB supporter always have been but this is over for me for now. I can't support a man that blames the players and fans for his failure. He has no idea how to run a program.

Fane support is why this move won't be made. If you stuggle with support when things are going good, what's going to be the incentive to make this move. The athletic director is a business man. He made an investment and to bail out on it now would mean bigger losses. If you look at the pricetag of some of the candidates you guys want, it wouldn't be a great move. Even if you brought in Buzz Williams who would probably out recruit all of the Texas schools except UT.

Does anyone actually know how many years Capel has left on his contract and what's the cost of his buyout?

It would have to be atleast 5 or 6. He signed an extension after Blake declared.

I think most OU fans on here have shown extreme patience with Capel..It's not like he was just hired to build a program, this is his 5th season & he is now rebuilding from the bottom again. We all know Capel can recruit, but keeping the top talent on campus & meshing the different personalities of players & coaching them is another factor.Joe C. is not a quick reaction AD but he can"t be at all happy with this mess.Go Sooners!!!!

Hope you are wrong. The guy will not take us anywhere except on this downward spiral.

OU will not have to buy out the next coach. Joe C did not buy out JC's contract at VCU and will not buy out the next guys. That's just how he does business. Neb hired Doc Sadler the same year OU hired JC. Neb paid UTEP's buyout, while OU did not pay VCU's. Can't imagine that changing. Last time we didn't even have to pay Kelvin to leave. This time we would be out JC's money (unless the NCAA finds us guilty and we get out of it that way).

Don't think thisd is a huge factor anyway, but we will not be buying out two contracts.

If you think Capel isn't coaching you are wrong. I was at the game sat behind the bench and watch Capel over half the time. He was coaching and the only reason they were even close in that game was because of him. They lost that game because they couldn't hit a shot and they turned the ball over. A coach has no control of those two things. Yes he can pull the player, but the players were playing good defense. Capel never gave up coaching. Also teams don't stay at the top year in year out except like 5 teams, OU is not one of those teams. Lastly players leave all the time from other schools. If Joe C fires Capel its a mistake, because kids will leave and it won't be as quick of a turn around. Watching the game on tv doesn't show you what Capel is doing on the bench, so if you are not at the game remember that. Also put down what I have to say because I know you will most of you are unsupportive, complainers.

You do realize that OU had advanced to postseason play around 15 consecutive seasons prior to Capel, correct? After this season Capel will have missed postseason play entirely in 3 out of 5 seasons. He gets a pass on year 1. He doesn't get a pass in years 4 and 5. I'm not sure which is worse - the Capel hate club or the Capel excuse club.

Did Capel have a buyout clause at VCU? It depends on the coach you're looking at. I imagine a 29 year old coach doesn't have much leverage to put a buyout clause in his contract, but a 33 year old coach coming off of an Elite Eight, top draft pick, and top 10 recruiting class may have leverage to put something in his clause. Also, if you want to get a Keno Davis, Brad Edwards, or Buzz Williams, those guys probably have buyout clauses as well.

Wow, I agree Capel was "Coaching" as you call it. But frankly, the only reason OU was in the game was Cincinnati isn't all that good (or didn't play good) not because of anything he was doing. The OU players were overmatched both athletically and skill. I am not going to bag on kids that are playing hard, I appreciate what they are doing and am supporting them.

Joe C. may not make a change, that's his call. I understand there are financial considerations. But I don't see how starting over would be worse than it is now.

How many OU players could start for any of the top half of the Big 12?

You may have a point with the latter, but not the former. OU had a Final Four caliber team in '09 and also had the nation's best player, but there were still a ton of empty seats. I do think Jeff needs to make a splash in recruiting, though, to keep his job much beyond next year. He really needs to sign two guys this spring who would be able to help any program. We appear to have two impact players joining the team next season, but we need to have four.
