OU is not going to buy out Capel's contract!

Wow, I agree Capel was "Coaching" as you call it. But frankly, the only reason OU was in the game was Cincinnati isn't all that good (or didn't play good) not because of anything he was doing. The OU players were overmatched both athletically and skill. I am not going to bag on kids that are playing hard, I appreciate what they are doing and am supporting them.

Joe C. may not make a change, that's his call. I understand there are financial considerations. But I don't see how starting over would be worse than it is now.

How many OU players could start for any of the top half of the Big 12?
I wouldn't care too much if I thought our main problem was talent. I think our main problem isn't talent it's the lack of simple fundamentals on defense and offense. And it's the complete lack of coherent substitution patterns.

You can't look too fundamentally sound when you have 2 Pg's that can't dribble the ball with any type of pressure applied. You can't look fundamentally sound when your 6-5 shooting guard is playing the center of your zone and the other teams 6-10 250 lb big guy pushes him under the bucket, even though he TRIED to block out.

You can't look too fundamentally sound when your 6-5 " center" is so slow afoot that every team who can simply reverse the basketball can always catch him on the high side, and drop a simple pass into their 6-8 or better post player.

You keep talking about fundamentals as if they don't corrolate with talent. We turn the ball over because we have weak pg's. We give up easy 2nd chance pts because we have maybe 1 guy who can defend the post(CJ). We might lose by 5 or 6 instead of 10 or 20 if we were better fundamentally, but these guys just can't win alot at this level, with this mix of players.....

You do realize that OU had advanced to postseason play around 15 consecutive seasons prior to Capel, correct? After this season Capel will have missed postseason play entirely in 3 out of 5 seasons. He gets a pass on year 1. He doesn't get a pass in years 4 and 5. I'm not sure which is worse - the Capel hate club or the Capel excuse club.

No seniorsooner i did not know that they made it to the post season play that many times before Capel. I just became a fan last season. I have never stepped foot in Oklahoma before then. Which is all untrue. I have been watching OU since I was a kid, grew up a few miles away, went to basketball camps, went to things they did for kids, went to games, watch so many other games on tv and I am a student at The University of Oklahoma. So I know what is going on with OU basketball. I havent made an excuse for Capel and obviously he knows what he is doing more then you because Joe C hired him and not you. If you call yourself a fan but all you do is bash the team and the coach on here are you really fan?

It wasn't 15 years, it was more like 25 years dating back to 1982ish. OU easily has the second best basketball program in the Big XII. The only competition is OSU

So which club do you belong to, seniorsooner?

Yep from 1982-2006 we made the post season (NIT or NCAA) every year.

Easily one of the most absurd statements posted on here in some time. My compliments.

I'm not a member of either club. My goal is not to be "right" about anything. If we come out next year like gangbusters and make the tournament, I will neither be right or wrong. I will just be happy. If we come out next year and struggle yet again, I will neither be right or wrong. I will just be disappointed. I don't have anything personal against Jeff Capel. I don't spend my time coming up with petty b.s. to rip him over, like his choice in music or him sending a text to a former recruit. Moreover, I WANT him to succeed because I want OU basketball to be successful. If I have anything negative to say about Capel the ONLY motivation is that I am disappointed by and distrubed about the current state of our basketball program. The product that has been put on the floor these last 40+ games is unacceptable, and the blame for that lies directly at the feet of Jeff Capel and no one else. As I said in an earlier post, when you reach the highest level of coaching at a division 1 school there are no excuses - you either get it done or you don't.

Do I hope for a big turnaround next year? You bet I do, and I will be as happy as anyone on this board if it happens. I will also be first in line to compliment and thank Jeff Capel for making it happen. If it doesn't happen, then I have repeated my stance over and over again, and I think it's pretty simple: we need to go to the tournament next year or we need a change. If that makes me a terrible fan, a "hater", whatever else, then so be it.

Ask me if I care what you think. Most of what you post on here is crap and is about putting down this team and other people who post on here. You think you know everything, but you don't. You comment on everything and it's all negative and I am tired of it.

Sorry you feel that way.

Nailed it, I'm in this camp.

SeniorSooner has been a loyal OU basketball fan for a number of years. Last year, he stuck by Capel as myself and many other posters ripped Capel to shreds. Senior cannot be faulted for his current stance on the program in any way, because he has clearly given Capel more patience than I and a number of other fans (did).

BTW, I have ripped Capel for singing R&B with the team and texting players that are not on his team, but I only ripped him for it because that is time he could use coaching a team that needs as much preparation and scheming as humanly possible. I can bet you Bob Stoops doesn't text players he missed out on recruiting and he doesn't sing to the one he signs. He prepares his team and he kicks the ass of those players who signed elsewhere.

If it worked for Denzel Washington, then it can't be wrong dude. His problem isn't singing songs or thinking about people he's met in his life during the season (!), it's getting players he recruited to buy into a family mentality where you're in it for better or worse, and you all have the same goal. He should show them Godfather, "never tell anyone outside the family what you are thinking again" and "your country ain't your blood you remember that". He's gotta get every kid he signs from here on to jump headfirst into OU bball.

Hey Bub we are tired of losing under this coach. He will own 3 of the worst seasons in the last 60 years. What's there not to be negative about we want to win not lose.

You know I think a lot of people on this board like Capel so much as a person that they are actually ok with losing. At least that what it appears. HE is 32-32 in Big 12 play for his career. That's including the Blake Griffin Years. That is not acceptable at OU, but some people feel that this in now ok. I don't get it and a lot of the other posters who are labled as "trolls" don't get it either. We are smart enough to know that 32-32 in conference, including either the best or second best player in OU history, is not good at all.

That's simply not true. Are there a few people that post on here that feel that way? Probably. But when you say that there are "a lot of people on this board" that want the team to lose you are dead wrong. Don't confuse being critical of Capel's current performance with rooting against the team.
