OU @ KU 11am CST on ESPN

Have you ever played center? I have and I will tell you, i was a lot more effective when the refs let me camp than when I had to constantly move to avoid a 3 second call. It’s not the sole reason we lost. There are many things that went wrong today, but that was one of the factors

AMEN...

As far as rebounding... kind of helps the off end if the bigs can camp... Plus a whole host of other ways it changes the game.

Yeah didn’t hurt our 3 pt shooting, we missed a lot of open looks... didn’t hurt our missed lay-ups.

Def helped ku.

IMO, we just missed way too many open shots and shots around the rim.. my only other gripe is we decided to not guard Garrett. Already been called a troll for this opinion in another post so I fully understand I am the only one with opinion.

No shame in losing to Kansas at home. We have had some really good teams do it in the last 25 years. We just need to find a way to win a couple more

Because it was a dumb & outlandish reason based on scouting.

How would you guard Kansas?

Played decent. They are better, missed 5-6 layups, & Garrett went crazy. Didn’t play near as bad as the score suggests. Just got to finish on offense but the offense worked well.

If the offense had worked well we wouldn’t have 3 starters combine for 13 points.

Not a single person expected OU to win this game... OU is no longer in a position where this win was necessary... and in a weird way it was a very uninteresting game... KU is significantly better, and its damn near impossible to beat them in Lawrence. Even a perfect game could result in a loss up there.

I am far more concerned and interested in OSU, TCU, Texas, and Texas Tech to finish out the year. Those are the winnable games that will make or break the season.

I really don't even think there is much to discuss here with the KU game..

I pretty much agree with this. we played well for a bit then their defense got us flustered and we couldnt buy a basket. they had much to do with that with excellent D and we also contributed to it ourselves with a lack of mental maturity.

you gotta pick your poison with Kansas and we picked leaving dude open. he killed us with it. it was at their place so it's that big a surprise.

onward! to the next victory.

When you miss 5-6 layups and open 3s with your better shooters it’s not the offense’s fault. If you make a bunch of tough shots would you consider that offense worked well?

How many layups did we miss, specifically? How many wide open threes?

Has it occurred to you that maybe KU’s strategy was to clamp down on the big 2 and let those other guys shoot? That’s what I would do. Reaves was 4-14. I don’t remember him missing any layups but I did see him miss fade-away threes and mid-range shots. Was it part of the offense to have him shoot those?

Harmon, Reaves, & Doolittle missed 1 each, Williams missed one and bobbled a wide open oop. Reaves missed a wide open corner 3 & Manek was 1/6 on 3s & only 1 was contested well.

Was it KU’s strategy to have Doolittle score 27? Is that shutting down the big 2? Whoever Udoka & McCormick was guarding was going to get good looks (Doolittle). After he was brought away from the rim the lane was open, OU missed too many layups when that happened.

This said everything that needs be said:
Not a single person expected OU to win - this included the Sooners players & coaches.
This game doesn’t matter because we were never in the hunt for a top 2 finish in B12.
The game was boring, the quality of play was inconsistent and generally more schoolyard than anything resembling good basketball skills and tactics.
KU has better players.
It is impossible to win there as Buddy learned a few years back. If is close as that one was, the refs will allow KU advantages.

In my opinion, MCBB isn’t that fun to watch anymore. I wasn’t impressed by KU. MCBB is now like the NBA without the players. I’ll watch March Madness when it gets to the Elite 8, probably out of habit more than interest. Folks wonder why attendance is down, well it’s the product colleges are putting on the floor.

So you’re saying our players just weren’t very good... I don’t disagree but I don’t think our offense was very good either. It’s lots of iso, which has been the story all year. Not enough ball movement.

Not that we were ever going to beat KU, they are far superior to us.

I’m saying they missed shots they usually make. Ball movement has been good as of late.

OU women miss tons of layups too..maybe the teams don't practice layups...to dangerous ?

I'd like to see what people mean by missed layups... I think that is probably a little disingenuous. Not all layups are easy, and if you are going too fast, too much traffic, don't get a good jump, misjudge the angle, think someone is on your back, etc you can miss layups pretty easily that are legit misses and not really blown opportunities.

But when you say "missed layup" I think people envision Austin Reaves casually strolling down the court with nobody around him and just missing something wide open for no reason other than goofing up. The amount of times that happens in D1 basketball is VERY rare.

Agreed. I thought the 5 misses I stated should have been converted as they were lightly contested.
