OU @ KU 11am CST on ESPN

Stats are actually not bad... except shooting % and boards...🥴

we still aren't mentally tough enough to win games like that. we have the talent, just not the maturity. I know it was a loss and figured we'd get toasted.

It’s nonsense to say you can’t complain about officiating. No one is saying the refs is the only reason we lost. Just because one might complain about the officiating doesn’t mean that is the blame for the performance.

But I’m going with SoonerKC on this one. Azibuike was allowed to camp out in the lane. Had time to make a sandwich. That alone changes the complexion of the game. He gets better position to score, he gets more rebounds. And as we saw today, it means we have to drop more people in the lane for a longer period of time to help, which leaves players open outside, or gives openings to drive.

You can’t say that officiating didn’t impact the game. Just like you can’t argue the fact they went 16 minutes without having a fouls called against them. To say those two facts didn’t change the game is just ignorant or naive.

Did that solely cost us the game? No. JB, Harmon and Williams played poorly. Brady was not a factor offensively. We didn’t get to the rim enough. TOs at bad times. But to deny that officiating impacted he game is denying each one of those costly factors also impacted the game.

Excellent other points...

14/16 on free throws. It's been one of our consistent bright spots throughout the season (tied for 15th nationally at 77.2%. Pepperdine leads at 79.9%). After today's game it propels us to the #11th spot.

We lost for a lot of reasons but a big one is it takes mental toughness to win on the road. When one of your upper classmen “team leaders” cries after getting his second foul and mentally and physically checks out this is what you get. It’s not the first time and probably won’t be the last.

couldnt agree more. we were playing with them then they busted us in the chops and we didn't respond ... and it just snowballed from there.

I saw that, it’s really embarrassing

It’s nonsense to say you can’t complain about officiating as is being implied by a couple of posters. No one is saying the refs is the only reason we lost. Just because one might complain about the officiating doesn’t mean that is the blame for the performance.

That alone changes the complexion of the game. He gets better position to score, he gets more rebounds. And as we saw today, it means we have to drop more people in the lane for a longer period of time to help, which leaves players open outside, or gives openings to drive.

But to deny that officiating impacted he game is denying each one of those costly factors also impacted the game.

This is exactly correct. It makes a big impact on the game and gives ku a huge advantage. It happens almost every game in AFH, regardless of who they’re playing.

Beware the Phog. All who enter get SCREWED.

That one doesn’t bother me too much. Lots of home cooking, bad matchups, Garrett having the game of his life, etc. Hopefully, it gives us red ass heading into Tuesday night.

There is where I am. Didn't have too many expectations for this one. Kansas is really good. Just wanted to be competitive. If Garrett doesn't have the game of his life, then it's much closer. Oh well, need a good scalp on Tuesday night.

I don't know if it's talent or maturity, but you can't beat good teams on the road when your guards shoot 2/10 from 3. And when Reaves comes out chucking 3's on his first shot, I'd send him straight to the bench.
We don't have the maturity to play smart. Or maybe we just don't have the coaching.
Someone pointed out earlier. When you're trying to keep Manek out of foul trouble, and you assign him to guard Asbigasabuick, how stupid is that?

agreed. I have been cautiously excited as Reaves has seemed to not settle for crappy jumpers as much lately (only to not finish a drive to the hole), but these bunnies of his have got to start falling or he needs to take a back seat to someone else until he can make better team-oriented decisions on the floor.

Unfortunately it’s either him or Doo... manek has gotten the big draw all season.

We gambled on Garrett and he stepped up and burned us.

Yeah Reaves first 2 touches weren’t good but in spite we settled down. Giving their big 6/7/8 sec in the lane every trip really set them up well.

Played decent. They are better, missed 5-6 layups, & Garrett went crazy. Didn’t play near as bad as the score suggests. Just got to finish on offense but the offense worked well.

You’re still going on about them not calling 3 seconds in the lane enough on Azubuike. That is not why we lost lol.

Have you ever played center? I have and I will tell you, i was a lot more effective when the refs let me camp than when I had to constantly move to avoid a 3 second call. It’s not the sole reason we lost. There are many things that went wrong today, but that was one of the factors

I can say it. I didn’t think officiating impacted the game. It’s kind of trite to resort to blaming the officials for a poor showing. OU is weak in the post and physical low post players can abuse us..... and our offense is mostly perimeter based so other teams don’t have to foul us because we don’t score much in the paint. I did notice OU only committed 10 fouls and KU committed 13.

I blame poor rebounding and poor shooting more for the loss. They out rebounded us by 11 and we shot 36% from the field and just 33% from deep. They shot 48.5% from the field and 50% from deep. We just got whipped by a much better team.... maybe the best team in the country this season. JMHO.

Man, taking ONE piece of my entire post and quoting it to say I was trite to blame the officials is a little disingenuous. I never said the officials are why we lost. If you read my entire post, I said there were MANY factors, and I stated some of the exact points you did. Shooting was a factor, rebounding, lack of perimeter guard play, untimely TOs, mental toughness were all factors. But to deny officiating didn't contribute to the tone of the game is just plain naive.

Quote my entire post as I explained what helped them in shooting the way they did, what helped their run at the end of the half, what helped their rebounding. When their bigs are allowed to literally camp out down low, it forces our entire team to sag down in the paint. That leaves wide-open jumpers and wide-open spaces for guys to drive. It allows them better position inside for layups. It gives them inside position on rebounding. When defenders can come in up top and chop at the ball and on guys' arms, i.e. Garrett on Doolittle toward the end of the half, it allows for steals and easy breakaways, which helps shooting percentages. When you are a perimiter team without a post game, you rely on getting to the line for some of your points, but when you don't get ONE foul in 16 minutes, it in effect takes away part of your offense. The second foul on Brady was a joke and forced him to sit for over half of the first half and took our best offensive player and over the last month, our best post defender out of the game. Regardless of how bad his reaction was, that one foul changed the game.

Look, we had a chance when we cut it to 10, with a chance to go to single digits. But we took a jumper and then came down and turned it over. That's not the officials. I wish we would have driven it to the rim in the second half, instead of Doo acting like he is now Klay Thompson.

Officiating impacts the way the game is played and to state that isn't blaming the officials for the outcome of the game. It's just stating A factor in the game. But to deny officiating isn't A factor, not THE factor but one factor, in the outcome is nonsense.

But ultimately you are right, Kansas is a better team. A MUCH better team. Just wish we could have had things go our way and we made things happen to give it a better shot at winning. Not unexpected, but totally frustrated once again at an Allen Fieldhouse loss.

Not a single person expected OU to win this game... OU is no longer in a position where this win was necessary... and in a weird way it was a very uninteresting game... KU is significantly better, and its damn near impossible to beat them in Lawrence. Even a perfect game could result in a loss up there.

I am far more concerned and interested in OSU, TCU, Texas, and Texas Tech to finish out the year. Those are the winnable games that will make or break the season.

I really don't even think there is much to discuss here with the KU game..
