Is that the game where Kelvin had his infamous halftime "speech"

Thinking back to that season, it is a perfect example of why I disagree with those claiming the Big 12 is having one of our best years.

I don't really care how good the bottom of the league is. That is a weak argument. That is what the SEC uses in football to try and put their conference on top. Our 10th best team can beat your 10th best team. Who cares? If your 10th best team, or our 10th best team, can't beat any of the top 2-3 in either league, it's a moot point.

I didn't realize this, but OU didn't even finish in 2nd place in the Big 12 in 2002. Nope, we finished 3rd, a game behind UT. The top of that league was RIDICULOUS that year. OU. KU. UT. OSU was pretty good. Mizzou made the Elite 8, only to be knocked out by OU.

I would much rather have to fight thru this year's Big 12, than that year's. This OU team probably finishes 5th, at best, in that 2002 Big 12. Tough league that year.

I have been interpreting people as saying the Big XII is the best conference in basketball this year rather than the best the Big XII has ever been. I think 87/88 for the Big 8 was the best the conference ever was. KU won it all, OU was the best team in the Country. Missouri, ISU and KSU were good basketball teams. The Big XII was really good in 2002-2004

You've got your years mixed up. We finished 2nd in 2002 with a 13-3 record. Texas, O-State and Tech all tied for third at 10-6.

We finished third the NEXT year after crapping ourselves in the final minutes against Texas in Norman.

No. That was the year before in the Big 12 final against Texas after one of the ugliest halves of basketball ever played in the free world.

What a great performance defensively! That OU team was as tough as any we've ever had. I had almost forgotten how thrilled I was when that game was over.

Glad you posted the link, OUHoops!

I thought that didn't sound right. Too bad we didn't get KU in Norman because we would have beaten them. They went undefeated that year in big 12 play. We were 2nd at 13-3 with losses @KU, @osu, and @Texas I think.

I believe OU lost to Bob Knight's Tech team in 2002 on the road, not Texas.

That is probably right. I knew the other 2 L's were @KU and @osu, but should have won that one. I wonder if KU had Tech in Larryville that year? They probably did.

It's amazing how loud the LNC used to be. I mean, several of these games they've shown today had the LNC rocking!!

Correct.

A loss in Lawrence, 74-67 (I was there.)
A loss in Lubbock, 92-79 (an awesome display of the motion offense. Kelvin smacked Jabahri HARD on the bench)
A loss in Stillwater in OT (I was there.)

Beat Texas in Austin. Mouton hit a three at the buzzer to send it to OT (we blew a HUGE lead). But we held on and prevailed!

Yes they did. But they also beat Tech by 40 in the Semi's of the tournament the day before OU game. Literally 40. 90-50. Despite their coach, they were a train roaring down the tracks heading into the title match against OU, and OU re-arranged their face defensively for 40 minutes.

Almost too laid back sometimes. I wouldn't mind if Lon put some of the competitiveness he demonstrated as a player on display, maybe even get a red-in-the-face technical on occasion. lol Make no mistake, though, winning is just as important to him as it was to Kelvin. They just have a different way of showing it.
Lon reminds meof Tom Landry, you can't tell if he is winning or losing by looking at his face.
