+++++++OU-North Dakota State Pregame Notes/Game Thread+++++++

This team leads the nation in field goal percentage.Their not chopped liver.

We're 6-16 from beyond the arc and 5-18 from inside it. Maybe we should shoot nothing but three's.

Have you even watched this game? We are driving and dishing... How many shots have gone in and out... We will win this game by 15. Mark it down..

I remember when I had my first beer.

We've passed up some good shots and taken several bad ones. Our defense is atrocious. The trends in this game point to a loss. I hope we can turn it around, but

3 pointers will never be higher percentage than inside shots unless you play scared or field a team of midgets.

Have you watched OU this year. A wide open 3 is a better shot than a well defense lay up.

We may well lose this game, but there is absolutely no need to lose our minds this early. Our problem has been two-fold: poor defense and inability to knock down wide open shots.

If Kruger can figure out a way to get thse kids to play defense, AND, if Buddy can start knocking down wide-open threes, OU CAN come back and win this game.

This is exhibit A for the type of results that Undisciplined, helter skelter type of ball will get you in the tournament. When you don't emphasize defense and just jack up random shots, then it equals one and done. It will be this way until we change our philosophy or get a bunch of NBA talent on this team. You can't beat good teams in the tournament until you emphasize playing smarter....it's that simple.

Well said. The game has to be played from the inside out … not outside in. The ball has to enter the paint at some point to a post player. Whether he is a strong scorer or not, its got to go in there to keep a defense honest. Hell, we've got a bunch of 6-4 guards post them from time to time against smaller guards. Can't win with all threes and no defense.

A large majority of the 2s are not at the rim and strongly contested. I agree, would rather shoot the uncontested 3 but would also like to see us get some more easy put backs and transition shots.

Besides, if every taken three was wide open, and every missed lay up well defensed, I don't think we'd be having this conversation.

the only gripe i have is that Kruger cannot get these guys to play good defense and entire game in tournament play. Happened last year in both the Big 12 and NCAA tourny and its happened again this year..Is it a coaching or players thing i do not know, but its been disappointing to watch on the big stage that OU does not bring defense...

I have no doubt this team will continue to fight, but what I do doubt is that they will actually talk/switch effectively on defense as well as play a little more under control on offense. I hope they prove me wrong.

OU has not been a good defensive team all year, they were better the last half of the Big 12 season but it's not a lock down defense.

Part of that is when you play at a fast pace, there are more possessions for the other team.

But, it hasn't been a good defensive team and is not tonight.

I wonder if some of the matador defense and straight refusing to get in front of wide open driving guards is because of the new charging rules; they're afraid to risk losing Spangler to fouls that might end up being and 1 anyways. So they all play hesitant sometimes when challenged inside, which takes them out of rhythm.
